Lazio is decimated in defense and will also have an eye on Bayern Munich ahead of this meeting with Sampdoria. Read our reasons for Lazio vs Sampdoria prediction and betting tips.
Simone Inzaghi explained his tactical decisions, substitutions, and regrets after Lazio lost 3-1 to counter-attacking Inter. ‘We knew they could play like this.’ The Biancocelesti had won six consecutive Serie A games, but despite having over 65 percent possession at San Siro, they didn’t test Samir Handanovic enough. Their only goal came from a Sergej Milinkovic-Savic free-kick deflected off Gonzalo Escalante, while Inter was decisive on the counter-attack. “There are regrets because we probably could’ve earned more. We knew Inter could play like this, we had more possession and double their passes, so losing 3-1 there are going to be regretted,” Inzaghi told media. “We got too irritated, which is a shame because penalties like that can happen. Inter did well to defend very deep and we struggled to find spaces. Once we did get back into the game, we shouldn’t have allowed the third goal straight away on the counter. The team put in a good performance, but we could’ve had more.”
Inzaghi made some surprising substitutions at half-time, taking off Wesley Hoedt and Lucas Leiva for Marco Parolo and Escalante, then replacing Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto too. “Hoedt had done well, but he was booked and I didn’t want the risk of going down to 10 on the counter. Escalante came on and gave his contribution.” Losing Stefan Radu in the warm-up was a huge blow for Inzaghi, but he never considered playing defend and counter here. “We had tested Francesco Acerbi all week in defense on Lukaku, as I wanted a left-footer, but then we lost Stefan Radu at the last minute, so that changed our plans. We couldn’t come to San Siro and clam up in defense, that just wasn’t part of our approach. So with Radu injured, we had to make some changes and I went for Hoedt. I wanted to keep Lautaro and Lukaku as far away from the box as possible, as that is where they are dangerous. We were winning six in a row, we’d lost at San Siro against Milan in an incredible fashion, so I believed we could take the initiative here and win. Unfortunately, we were passing it around well but couldn’t find any spaces. I made the changes so we could seek the wingers to put crosses in.”
Lazio (3-5-2): Reina; Patric, Acerbi, Musacchio; Marusic, Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Luis Alberto, Fares; Immobile, Correa

Claudio Ranieri believes Sampdoria’s quality made the difference in their 2-1 win over Fiorentina and insists the Blucerchiati’s target is 40 points and Serie A survival. The Blucerchiati beat Fiorentina 2-1 at the Stadio Marassi with Fabio Quagliarella who scored the winner in the final minutes. “He is a serious professional, he looks younger than his age and he is a role model for our young players,” Ranieri told media. “I am satisfied with my players, I have many options on the bench thanks to the club. In the reverse fixture we played with a striker and a support striker, I used the same system today, but when I saw this system was not working today I changed it. We knew it would have been a difficult game,” he continued. “I am lucky because I have a deep squad, the first half was very tactical, I made some substitutions in the second half and we managed to win the game. Quality paid off. We were lucky too, Milenkovic had a good opportunity at the end of the game, but his shot was wide.”
Sampdoria has an edge of 15 points on the relegation zone with 30 points in 22 games. “Step by step, we must reach 40 points and pay attention,” Ranieri said. “We had some difficult games, we could have lost against Benevento and Fiorentina, it can happen to lose four or five games in a row and lose enthusiasm, we must be careful.” It’s a special game for Keita Balde Diao, who left Lazio in bitter circumstances following a contract dispute with President Claudio Lotito.
Sampdoria (4-4-2): Audero; Bereszynski, Yoshida, Colley, Augello; Candreva, Silva, Ekdal, Jankto; Keita, Quagliarella

Sampdoria has scraped just three draws from the last 14 Serie A trips to Lazio but could beat the Aquile both home and away in the same season for the first time since 1991-92. Home win and both teams to score are reasonable betting options. Our final Lazio vs Sampdoria prediction is both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
