The injury crisis is easing and things are falling back into place for Lazio, but Udinese is difficult for opponents to break down.
Ciro Immobile returned from COVID with a bang, scoring in both the Serie A victory over Crotone and their midweek Champions League win against Zenit St Petersburg, which put the Aquile within touching distance of the Round of 16. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic still needs to be given the all-clear, but he should also return this weekend.
The rain and wind took center-stage in Crotone, but Lazio adapted better to the environment with Ciro Immobile and Joaquin Correa's goals. There were doubts as to whether this game would go ahead at all following torrential rain and flash floods in Calabria in the hours leading up to kick-off. It did seem for a while as if the conditions would control everything, but Immobile’s diving header on a Marco Parolo cross made the most of the situation. In the second half, Correa managed to dribble to the byline and fire in from the tightest of angles for the second goal.
Ciro Immobile bagged a brace and Marco Parolo got his first Champions League goal, as Lazio beat Zenit 3-1 to take a big step towards the Round of 16. It took all of three minutes for Lazio to open the scoring, as Immobile gathered from Lucas Leiva and hit a ferocious effort that took a slight deflection to loop over the goalkeeper and into the far top corner. Joaquin Correa countered down the left, cut inside, and set up Marco Parolo for a daisy-cutter into the near bottom corner from over 20 meters out for Parolo’s debut Champions League goal. Artem Dzyuba, who gathered with his back to goal and spun around quickly to fire in from 14 yards to complicate the result but Immobile converted the penalty with power and restored Lazio’s two-goal cushion.
Lazio (3-5-2): Reina; Patric, Acerbi, Radu; Lazzari, Parolo, Leiva, Luis Alberto, Fares; Immobile, Correa
Suspended: None
Injured: Lulic, Escalante
Udinese clambered out of the relegation zone thanks to the 1-0 win over Genoa, decided by Rodrigo De Paul, and have kept two consecutive clean sheets. Before that, they suffered narrow defeats to Milan and Fiorentina, so are no pushovers, despite their current position on the table.
Udinese won a dramatic and potentially crucial relegation battle with Genoa, but there was drama in stoppages with a disallowed goal and red card. Rodrigo De Paul broke the deadlock and ultimately decided the match with a moment of quality, drilling into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Genoa poured forward throughout the second half and thought they had equalized in injury time with Gianluca Scamacca, but their celebrations were cut short by VAR. There was more drama too, as Mattia Perin saw red for sprinting off his line to take down Jens Stryger-Larsen.
Gerard Deulofeu should be at least back on the bench, if not the starting XI, after missing last week’s game due to the birth of his child.
Udinese (3-5-2): Musso; Becao, Nuytinck, Samir; Stryger-Larsen, De Paul, Arslan, Pereyra, Ouwejan; Okaka, Lasagna
Suspended: None
Injured: Coulibaly, Wallace

Lazio managed to beat the crisis and there should be a dramatic rise in performances and form, especially when Sergej Milinković Savić come back, so the home team got all the tools for the win in the next match and only fatigue can be an issue.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
