Lazio is riding on a wave of enthusiasm after reaching the Champions League knockouts and host Hellas Verona.
The Aquile squeezed past 10-man Club Brugge thanks to a 2-2 result and the crossbar rescuing them in stoppages, but the elation of achieving that qualification for the first time in over 20 years is still going to be a boost. Lazio has conceded 17 goals in the opening 10 rounds, their worst defensive record at this stage since 18 goals in 1992-93.
Sergej Milinkovic Savic shined against Club Brugge. The Serbian 25-years-old midfielder was hailed as “a leader” of this team, defended and attacked well, with a crucial line clearance and going close to scoring two goals. Immobile won and converted a penalty kick in the first half, and that, with some shaky defending lately, was good enough for a point that gave the path to the knockout stages of the UCL.
Last weekend, Lazio took all three points with two moments of sheer quality from Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but Spezia was so unlucky. The Biancocelesti got the job done early on with an inspirational Milinkovic-Savic, who created one goal for Immobile and scored the second with a precise free-kick. Spezia largely controlled the game and had numerous chances, especially when Neuhel Estevez and Simone Bastoni rattled the frame of the goal. M’Bala Nzola did get one back eventually with a fantastic curler on the counter, but Andreas Pereira saw a late Lazio goal chalked offside.
Lazio (3-5-2): Reina; Luiz Felipe, Acerbi, Radu; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Luis Alberto, Fares; Immobile, Correa
Suspended: None
Injured: Lulic, Patric
On a yellow card: Leiva, Akpa-Akpro
Verona lost only one of their last seven games, but have a very poor record against Lazio, losing six of their last seven Serie A meetings. There were remarkably only two goals at the Bentegodi, as Hellas Verona and Cagliari rattled the woodwork and forced tough saves. Samuel Di Carmine saw his early goal disallowed for offside after a chaotic move that saw the ball bounce off both the crossbar and the upright. Hellas did get the breakthrough with Mattia Zaccagni, who came sliding onto a Marco Davide Faraoni cross. Cagliari got back on level terms with Razvan Marin’s debut Serie A goal, dribbling through a crowd of defenders. Leonardo Pavoletti had several chances, including a glancing header saved from point-blank range.
Verona (3-4-2-1): Silvestri; Dawidowicz, Lovato, Dimarco; Faraoni, Tameze, Veloso, Lazovic; Zaccagni, Barak; Di Carmine
Suspended: Ceccherini
Injured: Gunter, Vieira, Benassi, Kalinic, Cetin

Both teams are playing good football lately and are very capable to earn a win here, but the most reasonable bet is both teams to score, because Lazio, despite great attack, has still some defensive issues to resolve.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
