Leeds host Newcastle at the Elland Road (Leeds) in the 13th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Wednesday, December 16.
LEEDS VS NEWCASTLE MATCH ANALYSIS
The newcomers in the league slipped down to 14th, with 14 points, after their home defeat against West Ham (1-2) on Friday, which is their fourth defeat in six matches (W1-D1-L4). After two games without conceding, they have now lost back-to-back games and are winless in the last five home games. As for Newcastle, the Magpies recorded their second win on the road against Crystal Palace two weekends ago (0-2), and after the match against Aston Villa was postponed last week due to a coronavirus outbreak, they climbed up the standings to 11th (17pts) with a 2-1 win against West Brom on Saturday (W5-D2-L4).
Leeds are surely looking to establish themselves back in the Premier League, after a 16-year absence from English football's top flight. The Villa win on Matchday 6 (0-3) lifted Leeds to third for a short while, which is their highest position at the end of a day in the top-flight since September 2002. However, after two back-to-back defeats against Leicester and Crystal Palace, and Chelsea and West Ham, they fell down the pecking order.
Just like at Stamford Bridge, Leeds had gone 1-0 up against the Hammers when Mateusz Klich converted a twice-taken sixth-minute penalty, and just like against Chelsea they let the win slip out of their hands. The Hammers leveled when Meslier failed to stop Soucek's soft header and won it with 10 minutes to go through Ogbonna's header. Although their all-in approach is admirable, Leeds keep getting caught out and have now shipped seven goals from set-pieces this campaign, the joint highest in the league with Leicester.
Newcastle took a couple of steps back after 2-0 defeats to the Saints and Chelsea in rounds 8 and 9. Defensive solidity had been a key facet of Newcastle's previous two Premier League campaigns, so they were glad to find a formula that worked so well in their match against the Eagles (0-2) before their postponed fixture against Villa. After a week’s rest, they beat the struggling West Brom (2-1) and registered their first back-to-back wins in this campaign.
The Magpies, playing for the first time in more than two weeks, were given the lead after just 20 seconds by Miguel Almiron, but West Brom's improvement after half-time was rewarded by Darnell Furlong's excellent equaliser. However, Dwight Gayle scored the winner on his first appearance of the season as the Magpies heaped more misery on struggling WBA. His strike lifted Newcastle to 11th in the Premier League table, at least for the time being.

These two teams have only shared the league once, while they were both in the Championship in season 2016/17. Newcastle has a win (0-2) and a draw at home (1-1) in the reverse fixture that season.
Leeds suffered their third defeat in six home Premier League games this campaign, as many as they suffered in 23 Championship matches in 2019-20.
Newcastle last won back-to-back top-flight games after the restart in June, the same time they last won three on the trot in all competitions.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
