Leicester host Southampton at the Wembley Stadium (London) in the FA Cup Semi-finals and the match kicks off at 6.30 pm (UK) on Sunday, April 18. Read our reasons for Leicester vs Southampton prediction and betting tips.
A place in the FA Cup final will be at stake when Leicester and Southampton meet at Wembley on Sunday in front of 4,000 supporters at Wembley. The Foxes have never lifted the FA Cup, finishing runners-up four times in their 137-year history, and they will be bidding to reach the final of the competition for the first time since 1969 when they lost to Man City at Wembley. Southampton’s last appearance in the final was more recent. They lost to Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium in 2003, but Saints supporters of a certain age will have fond memories of their 1976 final victory over Man United at Wembley.
This season Leicester can boast some fine results in this tournament, starting out with a 4-0 romp at Stoke in the third round. Brentford were beaten 3-1 away before Brighton put up stern resistance in a 1-0 defeat at King Power Stadium when Kelechi Iheanacho grabbed a stoppage-time decider. Iheanacho was again the headline act when bagging a brace in City’s impressive 3-1 quarter-final triumph over Man United. The Foxes have since been beaten by Man City and West Ham in the league and must bounce back from a breach of Covid guidelines.
Leicester’s main issues over recent weeks have been at the back, as they have kept just one clean sheet across their last nine games in all competitions. However, only Man United have collected more points from losing positions in the PL this season than Leicester, the Foxes having picked up 16 to date, most recently at Brighton last month. The Foxes have a good recent record against the Saints, losing just three of their last 13 meetings, and another victory seems likely on Sunday.
As for Southampton, they have yet to concede a goal in getting this far, seeing off Shrewsbury, Arsenal, Wolves and Bournemouth by an aggregate score of 8-0. It has been joked that Ralph Hasenhuttl will be given a statue outside St Mary’s Stadium if he guides Saints to FA Cup glory for the first time since 1976. The Austrian laughed off such suggestions but admitted that he wants to make history at the club.
However, Hasenhuttl was left fuming by Monday’s 3-0 Premier League drubbing at second-from-bottom West Brom, describing that effort as a non-performance. Saints will obviously be far more fired up for this trip to Wembley, but there have been too many embarrassing blips to ignore over the past couple of years. That list includes a 9-0 thrashing at Man United in February and last season’s St Mary’s loss to Leicester by the same scoreline.

Leicester meet Southampton having previously lost their last two FA Cup meetings with the Saints, losing 1-0 in January 2006 and 2-0 in January 2008. This is Leicester’s eighth FA Cup semi-final (W4, L3), and first since 1982, while Southampton, having won two of their first three FA Cup semi-final ties between 1898 and 1902, have progressed from just two of their subsequent nine such matches.
It is often said Premier League form can be forgotten when it comes to FA Cup semi-finals, but it is hard not to see Leicester as a favourite to beat Southampton. The Foxes are 11 places and 20 points further up the table, plus they came out two goals on top when these teams met in that competition three months ago.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
