Leicester host Wolves at King Power Stadium (Leicester) in the 1st round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 14. Read our reasons for Leicester vs Wolves prediction and betting tips.
LEICESTER vs WOLVES: GAME EXPECTATIONS
A Cup and Community Shield holders Leicester City get their Premier League season underway on Saturday against a Wolves side playing their first competitive match under Bruno Lage. Brendan Rodgers’ side beat Man City 1-0 in the season curtain-raiser at Wembley last weekend with a late penalty from Kelechi Iheanacho. They will hope to make it third time lucky in May and finish in the top four after dropping out on the final day in each of the past two seasons. Meanwhile, Wolves begin life without Nuno Espirito Santo but are sticking with the tried-and-tested Portuguese route under Lage, for whom an improvement on last season’s disappointing 13th will be the aim.
LEICESTER vs WOLVES: THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR
Just like the season before last, the 2015/16 PL champions had to settle for fifth-place last campaign, as they claimed just one win from their final five PL matchdays (D1, L3). As a result, multiple signings have been made this summer to push for a top-four spot, but a long-term injury dealt to star defender Wesley Fofana in pre-season will cause headaches. After winning their opening league fixture last season, Leicester will now look to buck a trend as they’ve never won consecutive top-flight openers in their history.
Last season saw Wolves miss a top-half finish for the first time since returning to the top-flight. With manager Nuno Espirito Santo leaving the club for Tottenham this summer, Bruno Lage’s first task is to put an end to the three-game PL losing streak that Wolves registered at the end of last season’s campaign. The former Benfica manager has a mountain to climb, as five of the seven previous coaches whose first-ever game in the PL was vs Leicester went on to lose that match. The visitors are also winless in their previous 11 top-flight road trips to Leicester (D4, L7), failing to score in the last four.
LEICESTER vs WOLVES: TEAM NEWS
Leicester have kept their key players with top scorer Jamie Vardy expected to lead the line while Kelechi Iheanacho appears to have picked up where he left off last season. Community Shield was certainly worth more than a pre-season friendly as it gave Rodgers the chance to thrust James Maddison and Harvey Barnes back into action after the two missed large chunks of 2021. The Foxes always play front-foot football under Rodgers, but the loss of Wesley Fofana to a broken leg will significantly weaken their defence, as the main source of pace has been taken out.
On the other hand, this is a transitional season for Wolves after losing manager Nuno Espirito Santo following a disappointing campaign last term. New man Bruno Lage is still struggling to get the best out of his team as they claimed just two wins from six preseason matches. A major boost for Wolves is the return of striker Raul Jimenez, who missed much of last season due to a head injury. They have also retained their key players, adding winger Trincao to the squad while Orlando Sa has replaced departed goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Leicester netted 68 goals in the Premier League last season, with only champions Man City and runners-up Man Utd hitting the net more. Maddison and Barnes will add more to their build-up play while Iheanacho enjoyed a phenomenal 2021, scoring 16 goals in all competitions. Also, the arrival of Patson Daka will surely encourage him to continue impressing. For Wolves, it is hard not to see how important Raul Jimenez is to them and how sorely he was missed last season. The Mexican provides both a goal threat and a focal point, both of which were missing from the side during his absence. All these factors add up to what should be an entertaining game.
