The Champions League quarter-final between Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig will be played as scheduled on Thursday in Lisbon at Estadio Jose Alvalade despite two positive tests for coronavirus at the Spanish club. Atletico confirmed that Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko are asymptomatic and will remain isolated at home while the rest of the squad will fly to Portugal on Tuesday.
RB Leipzig doesn't have a long history so it is easy to say that this club also doesn't have the European pedigree but they play good football and their charismatic leader from the bench, 33-year old Julian Nagelsman is one to follow from the new generation of coaches in Europe. The club was founded in 2009 and advanced to the top-flight Bundesliga within eight years.
They also captured a place in the Champions League, played the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League, defeated by Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal final. In the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League, Leipzig won their group ahead of Lyon, Benfica, and Zenit Saint Petersburg, and beat Tottenham Hotspur 4–0 on aggregate in the last-16 knockout round.
It is obvious that the team from the German state of Saxony is driven to the highest level and that amount on the money involved and talent are on par with the best. They are capable to play in different formations, they are always dangerous in the final third and they play with high pressing. They showed to the fans and the media they have all ingredients to be among the elite. It is tough to explain how Leipzig plays in few sentences but it is clear that they try to take control of the ball from the rivals and cleverly use space between opponents' lines.
They have several players that can be useful in many positions so they don't depend on a single striker or playmaker and they are very good at set-pieces. They are hungry for success and well prepared regarding stamina and fitness levels.
Unlike the last-16 knockout round, RB Leipzig will not be able to count on best goalscorer Timo Werner after he joined Chelsea before the end of the Champions League campaign. Yussuf Poulsen will start at his place after he recovered from an ankle injury and is back in training, but Marcel Sabitzer has a knee injury and he is doubtful. Ibrahima Konate is out after hip surgery, but he will be replaced with Marcel Halstenberg who returned after injury.
Atletico Madrid is a European football heavyweight, especially in recent years. Diego Simeone has done a great job as a coach but they lost two finals in the Champions League. They fly to Lisbon after they knocked out previous title holder Liverpool and the boys from Madrid want their hands on the famous trophy in Portugal. Their biggest advantage is experience. Atletico midfielder Koke (456) has played more games in his career than RB Leipzig (424) since their foundation.
Even though they haven't won the title yet, Atletico is a team of high quality that defends very well and has an extremely good counter-attack. Atletico has worked well for a long time with a very established coach with the same style and a gift for bringing people together. Simeone knows how to use his great aura and charisma with the players who then give their all on the pitch. His man-management is very impressive and that gives them an extra edge in difficult situations. They surely have been hit in their preparations for the game, with two positive COVID-19 tests but if there is someone that can absorb pressure and stress that must be the Argentinian coach. Correa and Vrsaljko are the only players unable to perform on Thursday so Simeone can start his best eleven.

Both teams have built a reputation for a tremendous work rate and this game could be decided by mistake under pressure. Under 2,5 goals and draw as an outcome after 90 minutes should be preferable bets for this match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
