RB Leipzig can move to within four points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich if they make home advantage count against Augsburg on Friday.
Goals from Nordi Mukiele, Willi Orban, and Marcel Sabitzer helped Leipzig to a 3-0 win at bottom club Schalke in their last outing, meaning they've won their last three matches in all competitions without conceding. With French star Upamecano at the back, Julian Nagelsmann's side will be confident of continuing that run against a visiting side they've already beaten twice away from home this season: 2-0 in the league in October and 3-0 in the DFB Cup in December. Emil Forsberg is targeting a return for next week's UEFA Champions League last 16 meeting with Liverpool, while Justin Kluivert could come back into contention for the second-placed home team, but winter arrival Dominik Szoboszlai is still out.
Leipzig boasts the best defense in the Bundesliga (17 conceded). Julian Nagelsmann, who was born near Augsburg, has never lost to them as a coach. Dayot Upamecano scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 2-0 win over Augsburg in 2017/18. He has won all four of the matches he has played against Die Fuggerstädter.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Mukiele, Upamecano, Orban - Adams, Sabitzer (c), Kampl, Angelino - Olmo, Nkunku - Sörloth
Out: Forsberg (knee), Henrichs (knee), Laimer (knee), Szoboszlai (groin)
Doubtful: Kluivert (ankle)
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann
Augsburg has now lost five of their last six matches after going down to a 2-0 home defeat against Wolfsburg last weekend. Heiko Herrlich's team still have a five-point cushion over Arminia Bielefeld, who occupy the relegation/promotion play-off spot, but they could do with avoiding another setback. That's easier said than done against Leipzig, of course, and the experience of four-goal Caligiuri could be vital. All the more so, given that left-sided defender, Iago has had to undergo ankle surgery. Meanwhile, January loan signing Laszlo Benes should continue in an attacking midfield role after impressing on debut last week.
Augsburg is winless in their last eight competitive meetings with Leipzig, losing seven, including home Bundesliga (0-2) and DFB Cup (0-3) fixtures earlier this season. Their Bundesliga record against Die Roten Bullen is W1, D3, L5. Heiko Herrlich's side is the third-lowest scorers in the Bundesliga (20 goals). Daniel Caligiuri and Andre Hahn are Augsburg's top scorers with four league goals each.
Augsburg: Gikiewicz - Oxford, Gouweleeuw (c), Uduokhai - Caligiuri, Strobl, Gruezo, Pedersen - Benes - Hahn, Niederlechner
Out: Iago (ankle)
Doubtful: Finnbogason (knee), Framberger (hamstring)
Coach: Heiko Herrlich

Leipzig must be a huge favorite to win the next match and make a solid intro for the UEFA Champions League game against Liverpool. The home win is the most probable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
