Dayot Upamecano will lead RB Leipzig's defense when Julian Nagelsmann's side host promoted Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday.
RB Leipzig made a few changes from the start of the season regarding formation in defense and a starting lineup. Central midfielder US international Tyler Adams lined up on the right-hand side of a four-man defense in last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt. It's a role the American has played before for club and country - he also impressed as a center-back in Leipzig's DFB Cup first-round win over Nuremberg at the start of the campaign. His versatility is a welcome for Nagelsmann as he attempts to navigate the jam-packed schedule domestic and European schedule. Having steered Leipzig to 17 points from eight games, Nagelsmann is enjoying his best-ever start to a Bundesliga campaign.
The fact Adams was rested in the 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek suggests he'll be recalled on Bundesliga Matchday 9. Whether that's in defense or midfield remains to be seen, with Nagelsmann's teamsheets, not the easiest to predict. Amadou Haidara could make a way in midfield which also includes the more forward-thinking Dani Olmo and Christopher Nkunku. Defender Marcel Halstenberg remains a doubt - not that there's any budging the towering Upamecano in defense or top scorer Angelino on the left. With three goals and one assist, Angelino is not only Leipzig's most potent attacking threat this season, but he is also the league's most dangerous defender.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Mukiele, Konate, Upamecano, Angelino - Adams, Kampl - Sabitzer (c), Olmo, Nkunku - Poulsen
Out: Henrichs (knee), Hwang (not included), Klostermann (knee), Laimer (knee)
Doubtful: Halstenberg (groin), Henrichs (knee)
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann
Fourth-in-the-table Leipzig has alternated between wins and losses in their previous league fixtures immediately after a European encounter. Needless to say, Bielefeld will be hoping for the upset at the Red Bull Arena. Uwe Neuhaus' side opened their first top-flight season in 11 years with a 1-1 draw against Frankfurt and 1-0 win over Cologne, but have lost all six since. They currently occupy the relegation play-off spot and could fall into the automatic drop zone for the first time in 2020/21 if results don't go their way.
On a more positive note, Neuhaus has a full complement of players to chose from. Cebio Soukou dropped to the bench in the 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen a week ago but could be restored. Hertha Berlin loanee and fellow midfielder Arne Maier could also have a part to play following various injury setbacks. Fabian Klos, meanwhile, resumes his search for a first Bundesliga goal. The Bundesliga 2's 21-goal leading marksman in 2019/20, he's yet to fire in eight attempts at Germany's top table.
Ritsu Doan is Bielefeld's most dangerous outlet so far, contributing a goal and an assist to the team's tally of five goals. Bielefeld has had the fewest shots on goal of any team this season (61); Leipzig the most (135). Arminia has lost each of their last six games, last picking up a point with a victory at home to Cologne at the end of September.
Bielefeld: Ortega - Brunner, Pieper, Van der Hoorn, Lucoqui - Prietl - Doan, Seufert, Hartel, Soukou - Klos (c)

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
