Leipzig host Liverpool at the Puskas Arena (Budapest) in the last sixteen of the Champions League and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Tuesday, February 16. Read our reasons for Leipzig vs Liverpool prediction and betting tips.
A meeting of 2019 winners and 2020 semi-finalists that pits together Jürgen Klopp and the 33-year-old who has long been earmarked as 'the new Jürgen Klopp', Julian Nagelsmann. Klopp has never faced Leipzig – they did not grace the Bundesliga until after his 2015 departure for England – but needs no introduction to a side that ended Man United's UEFA Champions League hopes.
As said this will be the first competitive encounter between both teams. However, Leipzig are not new to an English opponent as they have already faced Man United in the group stage of UCL 2020/21. RB Leipzig have managed to get through to the round of 16 by finishing ahead of the Red Devils in the group stage this season behind the group leaders PSG. In a very difficult, tricky group they went through which says pretty much everything about them.
Even with the departure of Timo Werner to Chelsea, Julian Nagelsmann and team have been really good in terms of their domestic league performance as they are currently 2nd in the league behind the league leaders Bayern Munich with 44 points from 21 games and are on an excellent form as they have won four of their last five league games (L1). Leipzig played in the semi-final last year and this year look good again.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 5 away games against German clubs in all competitions. The Reds' last defeat against a German side was in April 2002 against Bayern Leverkusen in the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League. The Reds will be looking to get to the final of the elite European competition for the third time in the last four campaigns.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are not at all having a good time in England as they got humiliated by Pep Guardiola’s Man City at Anfield after 17 years and also suffered a painful defeat at the hands of Leicester. Liverpool are currently 4th in the league table with 40 points from 24 games. They have only won 2 out of their last 5 league games and are currently on their worse form since Klopp was appointed manager.

Leipzig meet Liverpool in their second successive Champions League knockout-stage appearance - they reached the semi-finals last season. They are unbeaten in their last six home matches in Europe (W5, D1), scoring at least two goals in each of those six games, their best ever run on home turf in the competition. Leipzig are well versed in defense, able to close down any match when needed, and will look to hit Liverpool on the counter.
On the other hand, with the long list of injury, Liverpool looks to be shaky defensively and are currently struggling on both sides of the pitch in the league. They are not as clinical as they used to be in the final third and defensive mistakes are on high alert as they are committing silly individual mistakes even from the goalkeeper.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
