In a rematch of last season's UEFA Champions League semi-final on Wednesday RB Leipzig take on Neymarless Paris Saint-Germain.
Leipzig and PSG are both currently on three points in the Group H standings, behind leaders Manchester United (six points), but ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir (zero). Leipzig head coach Nagelsmann worked under PSG boss Tuchel at Augsburg after his playing career was ended by injury and is yet to get the better of his former mentor in three meetings (D1, L2).
It could be France battle the most anticipated in this game, without Neymar, and regarded as one of the best center-backs in the world, there will be plenty of attention on France international Upamecano who will try to stop his compatriot Mbappe. Having earned his first three senior caps for Les Bleus over the last international break, the 22-year-old has started every match for Leipzig this season, marshaling the league’s second-tightest defense with just four goals conceded, and even scoring in the 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin little over a week ago.
Leipzig had gone seven competitive matches unbeaten to start 2020/21 before their 5-0 loss to Manchester United. Julian Nagelsmann's side also slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach and lost league-leading position, but with only two points to make up on Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Leipzig has various personnel troubles, first-choice right wing-back Nordi Mukiele has missed the last two with a muscular issue, while midfield Tyler Adams, matchwinner in their Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid last season is battling a ligament problem. There is a possibility that both players could feature against PSG, but Lukas Klostermann and Konrad Laimer are out.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Konate, Upamecano, Halstenberg - Nkunku, Sabitzer (c), Kampl, Angelino - Olmo, Forsberg - Poulsen
Out: Hartmann (knee), Klostermann (knee), Laimer (knee)
Doubtful: Mukiele (hamstring)
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann
The pressure is on PSG to get a result at the Red Bull Arena if last season’s beaten finalists are to progress to the knockout rounds. They are currently level on points with Leipzig, whom they beat in the 2019/20 mini-tournament semis before losing 1-0 to Bayern in the final - after their own 2-0 victory in Istanbul last week, but lost 2-1 at home to Man Utd in their Group H opener. After starting their Ligue 1 title defense with back-to-back defeats, the French champions have since won seven in a row to move top of the table, but most of those victories have come against lower-league tier rivals.
Star man Neymar has been ruled out for several weeks after sustaining a groin injury against Basaksehir, the Brazilian joining former Bundesliga representatives Juan Bernat (Bayern) and Julian Draxler (Schalke and Wolfsburg) on the sidelines. Everton-owned Moise Kean is likely to start in his forward spot once again in a front three alongside Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria, but coach Thomas Tuchel - who made a name for himself in the Bundesliga with Mainz and Dortmund is checking the fitness of central midfield pair Leandro Paredes and Marco Verratti.
PSG: Navas - Florenzi, Marquinhos (c), Kimpembe, Kurzawa - Herrera, Gueye, Rafinha - Di Maria, Kean, Mbappe
Out: Bernat (knee), Icardi (knee), Neymar (groin)
Doubtful: Draxler (hamstring), Paredes (knock), Verratti (thigh)
Coach: Thomas Tuchel

Leipzig is trying to stay in the battle for the knockout stage after a big defeat against Manchester United and they know that PSG without Neymar is not the same team in terms of creativity. Parisiens will have trouble controlling the game, but with Mbappe in the team, they are more than capable to convert their chances. Both teams to score seems a reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
