RB Leipzig lost too many points in the home matches last season and now they are not willing to make the same mistake on Saturday when struggling Schalke will try to redefine their campaign with a new coach.
Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen had an entertaining 1-1 draw at the BayArena last Saturday. It didn’t take long for the match to develop into the attacking game so Dayot Upamecano had to be alert early on to stop former teammate Patrik Schick scoring at the near post before ex-Leverkusen man Kevin Kampl blazed over at the other end. Forsberg continued to impress with another goal scored, this time past Lukas Hradecky. Forsberg scored his second goal in as many league games, making this his best-ever start to a season.
The hosts reacted well and equalized shortly afterward through Demirbay, long-range effort left Peter Gulacsi with no chance. Leverkusen was the better side after that, with Moussa Diaby, Lars Bender, Karim Bellarabi, and Schick all having chances so Leipzig was the happier of the two sides when the half-time whistle blew.
Hwang Hee-Chan got his minutes after the break, South Korean was a lively presence on the wings and involved in setting up for Tyler Adams and Dani Olmo, who couldn’t score. Both sides had glimpses of goal to win it as the final whistle approached, the best one falling to Angelino, but the Leipzig left-back saw his shot wide of the far post. Big new signing Alexander Sorloth made his Bundesliga debut after coming on for Yussuf Poulsen. He is the first Norwegian to play for Leipzig in Germany’s top flight after his time in Crystal Palace and Trabzonspor. Sorloth top-scored in the Turkish Süper Lig and a domestic cup in 2019/20, with 24 and seven goals respectively.
Leipzig: Gulacsi (c) – Klostermann, Upamecano, Halstenberg – Haidara, Adams, Kampl, Angelino – Olmo, Forsberg – Sorloth
Doubtful: Konate (match fitness), Poulsen (groin)
Out: Hartmann (knee), Laimer (knee), Martinez (quarantine), Novoa (quarantine), Sabitzer (thigh)

Manuel Baum has been appointed as the new Schalke head coach on a two-year deal, running until June 2022. Baum, 41, steps into the hot-seat at the Veltins-Arena following the departure of David Wagner who has been on a run of 18 league matches without a win from 17 January 2020. Baum earned his first Bundesliga head coaching job back in December 2016, stepping up from his role as a youth coach to take over from Dirk Schuster at Augsburg. The former 1860 Munich youth player was in the job at the WWK-Arena April 2019 and has since coached Germany's national U20 and U18s teams in seven matches since September 2019: "Schalke is a terrific club with an incredible amount of tradition and sporting potential. Our most urgent task is to give the team a sense of achievement again as quickly as possible, in training and the game. I am convinced of the quality of our squad," Baum said.
Schalke has also announced that Naldo, who played for the club between 2016 and 2019, has re-joined the team as a member of Baum's coaching staff. Baum takes over a Schalke side on a five-game losing run in the German top-flight, sitting bottom of the Bundesliga table after two weeks of the 2020/21 season. The Royal Blues have conceded 11 goals and scored just once in their first two outings. They lost against Bayern 8-0 and Bremen at home 3-1.
Schalke: Fährmann – Rudy, Sane, Nastasic, Oczipka – Schöpf, Mascarell (c), Bentaleb – Uth, Paciencia, Matondo
Doubtful: Harit (unspecified), Serdar (thigh)
Out: Kabak (suspended)
Coach: Manuel Baum

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
