It will be a clash of giants when RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate stands up to VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic this Sunday. Read our reasons for Leipzig vs Stuttgart prediction and betting tips.
Leipzig's diminishing title hopes all but evaporated in midweek when they were beaten 2-1 by Cologne. Securing second place ahead of Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt is the new priority for Julian Nagelsmann, who may have more than just one eye on next Friday's DFB Cup semi-final clash with Werder Bremen. With that on the horizon, he may opt to rest a few regulars this Sunday, or at least not take any risks on the convalescent Yussuf Poulsen, who has been carrying a thigh strain, and Marcel Sabitzer, who missed the Koln game due to a calf complaint.
Alexander Sorloth can therefore be expected to lead the attack with Kevin Kampl an option if captain Sabitzer is rested as a precaution. Meanwhile, Angelino should be back in the starting XI after being given his rest in midweek as he continues his return from injury. Konate will likely make way for Dayot Upamecano once again in the back three. Die Roten Bullen has 61 points on the board after 30 matches, matching their club record from 2016/17. That season, their first in the top flight, they finished second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Orban, Upamecano, Halstenberg - Mukiele, Sabitzer (c), Adams, Angelino - Olmo, Nkunku - Sörloth
Out: Szoboszlai (groin)
Doubtful: Poulsen (thigh)
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann
Stuttgart still has a glimmer of hope that they will be returning to Europe next season, though they may be reliant on a favor from Leipzig against Bremen in the cup semi-final to keep that flickering, assuming they play their part with an away win this Sunday. A berth in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season will be on offer to the side finishing seventh, should Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund both reach the final, and the promoted side head into the weekend just four points off that particular place.
Sasa Kalajdzic's goals have been one of the reasons why Pellegrino Matarazzo's men can still harbor such ambition at this advanced stage of the season and the tallest player in the squad will be the target for their attacks again this weekend, although he will once again have to do without the creativity of winger Silas Wamangituka, who is still ruled out with a knee injury, as is the enterprising full-back Borna Sosa, for whom Erik Thommy should deputize. With Konstantinos Mavropanos back from suspension, the back three is back to full strength, meanwhile. No player in the league has won more challenges this season than Wataru Endo (428), who has 29 more successful challenges than his nearest rival.
Stuttgart: Kobel - Mavropanos, Anton, Kempf - Coulibaly, Endo, Castro (c), Thommy - Förster, Klimowicz - Kalajdzic
Out: Gonzalez (thigh), Mangala (thigh), Silas (knee), Sosa (knee)
Doubtful: Egloff (ankle), Kaminski (not included)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
