After just one round it is reasonable to say that Leipzig is a work in progress in the post-Nagelsmann era. On the other end, Stuttgart must be very pleased with the easy win on the home pitch. Read our RB Leipzig vs VfB Stuttgart prediction and betting tips.
The first round of the Bundesliga gave us few thoughts about title contenders. Leipzig slipped in an away 1-0 loss at Mainz in Nagelsmann’s successor Jesse Marsch's first Bundesliga game as head coach. RB had a very modest performance, marred by an individual defensive error in the first half that costed them heavily. Nordi Mukiele missed an attempted clearance following a corner, and Mainz captain Niakhate scored the only goal of the game. Throughout the game, Leipzig couldn’t find any rhythm. After Hungarian powerful midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai made his Bundesliga debut in the second half they were more dangerous. He could be in the starting lineup this time because Haidara, Nkunku, or Forsberg didn’t impress in the first game of the season.
It was visible that 28 goal scorers from the last term, Portuguese striker Andre Silva need more time to gel and adjust with his new teammates, and returning the Danish useful forward Yussuf Poulsen into contention could be crucial for Leipzig. Dani Olmo and Sabitzer are close to being fit for 90 minutes and Leipzig can only be better. At this moment they look vulnerable at the back and not creative in the final third. It should be interesting to see the duel between American coaches for the first time in a Bundesliga match.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Mukiele, Orban, Simakan, Angelino - Sabitzer (c), Kampl - Szoboszlai, Forsberg, Nkunku - Silva
Out: Halstenberg (ankle), Henrichs (knee), Saracchi (knee), Sörloth (ill)
Doubtful: Lookman (knee), Olmo (match fitness)
Coach: Jesse Marsch
Austrian striker Sasa Kalajdzic scored 16 times last season and created a great partnership with Nico Gonzales that went to Fiorentina. As Austrian is late to find fitness after EURO, Stuttgart played without their best strikers from the last term and scored five times against newcomer Greuther Furth. In a 5-1 win, Croatian starlet Borna Sosa had three assists and even defender Marc-Oliver Kempf was able to convert two goals after Sosa’s set-pieces. The scoreline was harsh for the promoted team as Furth had much of the ball at the start of the game and even better chances but after they conceded the first goal, Stuttgart punished them at almost every opportunity. Stuttgart surprisingly finished the weekend as Bundesliga leaders for the first time in 10 years.
Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team still has too many problems with injuries. It is unclear which players will be in the starting lineup. Youngster Mohamed Sankoh had to be stretchered off only minutes after coming on when he got his foot caught in the turf and he finished this year with a serious knee injury. Powerful and speedy winger Silas Wamangituka is still unavailable so Mattarazzo will need to shuffle the team once again. American was smiling after the win but he was reasonable in the post-conference saying that he and his players won just one game in the new season and that is a lot to do to repeat the success from the last term.
Stuttgart: Müller - Mavropanos, Anton, Kempf - Massimo, Klement, Endo (c), Sosa - Förster, Klimowicz - Kalajdzic
Out: Ahamada (ankle), Cisse (foot), Coulibaly (not included), Egloff (foot), Führich (collarbone), Nartey (not included), Sankoh (knee), Silas (unavailable)
Doubtful: Karazor (thigh), Mangala (thigh)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo

Leipzig showed a little in their first performance of the season but they will surely progress. Stuttgart is very dangerous on counters and set-pieces and this could be a very good start to the Bundesliga weekend. BettingKick’s RB Leipzig vs VfB Stuttgart prediction is: Both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
