The Bundesliga's two meanest defenses meet in the DFB Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday as RB Leipzig welcomes Wolfsburg to the Red Bull Arena. Read our reasons for Leipzig vs Wolfsburg prediction and betting tips.
While Leipzig has conceded just 20 times in the league in 2020/21 - a tally bettered only by Wolfsburg's return of 19 - they are yet to let in a single goal in the DFB Cup this season, having beaten Nuremberg (3-0), Augsburg (3-0) and Bochum (4-0) to reach this stage of the competition. Julian Nagelsmann's side is flying high in the Bundesliga, their dramatic late 3-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday keeping them just two points behind leaders Bayern Munich, while also extending their winning streak in the league to five consecutive games.
Alexander Sorloth will be pushing for a place in the starting line-up after registering a goal and an assist off the bench in that match, while Angelino should return after being rested at the weekend with a minor muscle complaint. Upamecano is set to continue in the heart of defense as he bids to sign off with some silverware before his summer transfer to Bayern. Angelino has contributed a team-high 14 goals in all competitions this season (seven goals and seven assists).
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Orban, Upamecano, Halstenberg - Adams, Sabitzer (c), Kampl, Angelino - Olmo, Haidara - Sorloth
Out: Laimer (knee), Szoboszlai (groin)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann
Wolfsburg, meanwhile, is just one place and five points behind Leipzig in the Bundesliga table, having put together a hugely impressive run of results since the turn of the year. The Wolves booked their place in the quarter-finals by a 1-0 triumph over Schalke at the start of February, a result that forms part of a 10-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. That run also includes a 2-2 draw at home to Leipzig on Matchday 16, which incidentally was the last time they conceded a goal: since then Oliver Glasner's side has kept clean sheets eight successive matches, winning seven.
The Wolfsburg coach has largely stuck to the same starting XI during that period, but is likely to make one change here: Brooks is expected to return at center-back in place of Marin Pongracic after serving a one-match ban in the 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday. At the other end of the pitch, top scorer Wout Weghorst, who has scored three in the cup this term, is due a goal after failing to find the net in his last three league outings. The Wolves - winners in 2014/15 - have been eliminated by Leipzig in each of the last two seasons, losing 1-0 in the 2018/19 round of 16 and 6-1 in the 2019/20 second round.
Wolfsburg: Casteels - Mbabu, Lacroix, Brooks, Otavio - Guilavogui (c), Schlager - Baku, Philipp, Steffen - Weghorst
Out: Brekalo (concussion)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Oliver Glasner

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
