Lens will host Bordeaux at Stade Félix Bollaert-Delélis on Saturday for a game of the 4th round in Ligue 1
Newly promoted Lens started with a defeat at Nice but even in that game, it was clear that they will have a decent role in this season. Their tough schedule continued with a home game vs PSG and nobody gave them chance for a surprise but eventually, Lens defeated the finalist of the UEFA Champions League with a Ganago goal. That was a great confidence boost for the group and coach Haise and Racing have never panicked as visitors despite the opening score of the Lorient. Lens brought back home three points thanks to a penalty converted by Kakuta, a superb acrobatic effort from Medina, and a goal scored by Ganago a few minutes after he came to the pitch as a substitute for the final 3-2 win.
A controlled victory rounded off a perfect week and great performance deserved success. Lens started well but Lorient scored from the first chance. They didn't panic and showed many signs of maturity, they were very consistent equalized quickly enough, and again quickly gained the advantage. After the match was played defensively Lens showed they can create chances and score and it was a pleasure to watch them. They defended well and attacked swiftly in the transitions and the main man was Facundo Medina who again done many things, played with enthusiasm, and scored a goal with beautiful scissors. They could even score more but they suffered from fatigue because of their game vs PSG on Thursday and got less concentration in crucial decisions in the final third. Fofana, Haïdara, Traoré, and Boli are out for the next match.
Les Girondins played a difficult match vs Olympique Lyon and a goalless draw with a team of that caliber is a very good result. Bordeaux played very well defensively, Lyon had 20 attempts on goal but just 3 on the target and it could be a great sign for coach Gasset. They didn’t concede a goal in three matches at the start of the new season and with five points, two goalless draws, and a win against Ajaccio they must be satisfied. In that win, they had more than 60% of the ball under their control, with 17 attempts on goal and 8 of them on target. Their persistence and pressure paid off with the late goals of Mariano Filho (80') and Maurice-Belay (93').
The team is unbeaten in the last five matches and has just two losses in the last sixteen games. The Girondins did not concede a single goal during the previous five outings, so defense is on the highest level. They must find a way to score more often because in the first match against Nantes with a man less because of the red card they created some chances that they didn’t convert in goals. Nicolas De Préville can be very dangerous but often alone in the final third. Samuel Kalu and Hwang Ui-Jo must help more but they need more time to gel and better understand each other. Yacine Adli, Toma Basic, or Maxime Poundjé will raise their level as the season continues so Bordeaux will be capable to win games that are now just decent draws. The Girondins are still unbeaten this season, and if the defense continues to play at this level they can steal the show and manage to be between top teams in this league.

A very good and creative Lens attack will try to break the Bordeaux defense for the first time in this season. All streaks must come to an end but for now, both teams will not score in this game, and under 2,5 goals could be the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
