Leverkusen and Wolfsburg earned valuable wins on Tuesday, but on Saturday they will face each other in a thrilling derby.
After a run of four games without a win, Leverkusen got a victory over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, which was a much-needed return to winning ways for Peter Bosz's team having lost three and drawn once in between moving top of the league on Matchday 12 and beating Dortmund on Matchday 17. Florian Wirtz was the hero with the winning goal, while Moussa Diaby ran the hosts ragged with a goal and an assist himself. Leon Bailey continued his resurgent 2020/21 campaign with the provision for Diaby's opener as well.
Bosz's only real concern going forward whether or not to retain lucky charm Lucas Alario or bring Schick back into the attack. Further back, Julian Baumgartlinger is back in contention after injury and Daley Sinkgraven could replace Wendell on the left side of the defense, although Bosz may be tempted to reward his starting XI that saw off BVB by naming an unchanged line-up.
Leverkusen: Hradecky - L. Bender, Tah, Tapsoba, Wendell - Wirtz, Aranguiz (c), Amiri - Bailey, Alario, Diaby
Out: Arias (ankle), S. Bender (knee), Paulinho (knee), Weiser (thigh)
Doubtful: Bellarabi (hand), Palacios (back)
Coach: Peter Bosz
Wolfsburg's 2-0 win at struggling Mainz may not have been as eye-catching as Leverkusen's victory over last season's runners-up, but it saw the Wolves score two in a game for a third game running as they moved into fifth place. Wout Weghorst was again the man that led the way for Oliver Glasner's men and the 28-year-old is on course to register his best Bundesliga campaign so far with the Netherlands international just five goals off his 17 strikes in 2018/19. In Poland youngster Bartosz Bialek, Wolfsburg may just have unearthed a long-term partner-in-crime for Weghorst, with the 19-year-old coming off the bench to grab the opener before his more established teammate sealed all three points.
Bialek will likely have to bide his time and continue to take the opportunities that come his way from the bench. Glasner brought Maximilian Arnold, Josip Brekalo, and Maximilian Philipp into the team against the 05ers and the only major possible change to his side could come in the form of Yannick Gerhardt replacing Philipp.
Wolfsburg: Casteels (c) - Baku, Lacroix, Brooks, Otavio - Schlager, Arnold - Brekalo, Philipp, Steffen - Weghorst
Out: Bruma (not included), Roussillon (not included)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Oliver Glasner

Leverkusen hasn't beaten Wolfsburg at home in the Bundesliga in four attempts (D2, L2) since their last league win over the Wolves in April 2016. That was the last time the home team took all three points from this fixture and it has been nine games since either side beat the other at home in the Bundesliga so both teams to score is the most preferable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
