Bayer Leverkusen hosts Young Boys in the second leg of their last-32 Europa League knockout tie after a thrilling seven goals encounter. Read our reasons for Leverkusen vs Young Boys prediction and betting tips.
Under normal circumstances, Leverkusen should be a heavy favorite to secure a win against a team from the Swiss Super League – considered miles beneath their German counterparts, in terms of quality. On the other side, Peter Bosz’s men are going through a rough period at the moment, and they are conceding in plenty. The first fixture was a high-scoring thriller, with seven goals in total and a defeat for a side that is struggling to secure their net. Leverkusen is now on a disappointing three-game winless run. Peter Bosz’s side was leading the Bundesliga table earlier in the season, however, have since dropped to fifth place and 12 points behind leaders Bayern Munich. Patrik Schick led the second-half comeback for Leverkusen with two goals in the space of just three minutes and despite the defeat, the German’s carry three valuable away goals back to the BayArena for Thursday’s second-leg.
Leverkusen will be without the injured Lukas Hradecky, Karim Bellarabi, Julian Baumgartlinger, Mitchell Weiser, Santiago Arias, and Paulinho for the visit of Young Boys. Bosz is likely to side with Schick in the attack, with Lucas Alario potentially set to make an impact from the bench.
Bayer Leverkusen: Lomb; Frimpong, Tah, Tapsoba, Sinkgraven; Wirtz, Aranguiz, Demirbay; Bailey, Schick, Diaby
Gerardo Seoane’s men are firing in all cylinders at the moment. They are finding the back of the net with ease, and are also at the top of their league table with a lead of 18 points. Young Boys are 1st on the Swiss Super League table with 50 points from 21 played matches. They won the last seven games in a row. Last Sunday, Young Boys won 2-1 at home against Servette. The home team played with a mixed lineup, but they still managed to record another victory. Last week, in the first leg, Young Boys won 4-3 in Bern against Bayer Leverkusen. The Swiss side could have an even more significant advantage before the second leg because they a massive 3-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, guests scored three important away that could be crucial in the rematch on Thursday.
The Swiss side will travel to Germany without best scorer Nsame and Mohamed Camara, who remain suspended after their dismissals in the group stage. Midfielders Vincent Sierra and Esteban Petignat are still out injured, so Seoane is unlikely to change his starting XI which gained a crucial win last week.
Young Boys: Von Ballmoos; Hefti, Lustenberger, Zesiger, Lefort; Fassnacht, Aebischer, Lauper, Ngamaleu; Elia, Siebatcheu

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
