Lille aims to carry their phenomenal Ligue 1 defensive record over to the Europa League tie against Dutch football giants Ajax on Thursday night.
Lille has exceeded expectations this season and is currently engaged in a battle with Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon for the Ligue 1 crown. Lille will be hoping they can continue their impressive league form which has earned them the top spot. The French side has proven hard to break down defensively having not conceded a goal in almost seven games of football. Christophe Galtier’s side has only lost twice in the league this season but was held off from earning the top spot in their Europa League group by AC Milan. An impressive 3-0 win away to Stefano Pioli’s team demonstrated the capability of the French team and will provide them with confidence going into Thursday’s game against the Champions League semi-finalists a few years ago.
The home team will play without midfielders Xeka and Benjamin Andre - Burak Yilmaz remains in the treatment room, but Yusuf Yazici is now back for the hosts and will aim to build on the six goals he struck in the group stage. Former Ajax defender Sven Botman was left on the bench against Brest, but the 21-year-old will surely return to face his former club after a turbulent week in which he was subject to multiple transfer speculations.
Lille: Maignan; Celik, Fonte, Botman, Bradaric; Ikone, Soumare, Sanches, Bamba; David, Yazici
Ajax has been the best team in the Netherlands once again this season and is the favorite to win the domestic title. Eredivisie's leader travels to France with an eight-game winning run under their belts. Ajax recorded yet another victory when visiting Heracles on Saturday, triumphing with a 2-0 final score. The Amsterdam giants are on a run of eight straight victories in all tournaments and unbeaten in thirteen consecutive matches. Ajax lost three of their last twenty meetings, all coming in consecutive clashes at the beginning of December 2020. The Dutch side has not allowed more than a goal in any of the previous eight games, keeping four clean sheets in the process.
Right-back Noussair Mazraoui was forced off against Heracles, while Oussama Idrissi could return from illness in time to feature as well. Sebastien Haller made a huge impression with five goals and five assists since completing his January move from West Ham United, but an administrative error means that he is ineligible for the Europa League. Lassina Traore should replace him, but the visitors also have two suspended players in Ryan Gravenberch and Andre Onana - the latter, the regular first goalkeeper is a subject of a 12-month ban for a doping violation.
Ajax: Stekelenburg; Mazraoui, Martinez, Schuurs, Tagliafico; Alvarez, Blind, Klaassen; Neres, Traore, Tadic

Lille should be a favorite for the win in the first match regarding their defensive composure and form. Ajax could be a tough nut to crack but a home win is our preferable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
