Lille host AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
After suffering their first Ligue 1 defeat of the season in a 3-2 thriller against Brest, Lille responded in style. A 4-0 demolition of Lorient followed which put them just two points off top spot, they look set to be PSG’s closest challengers this season. After going 13 games without a goal, Jonathan David has finally opened his Lille account, netting in the dying minutes of the last game. The Canadian forward made his name as one of Europe’s most promising youngsters during his time with Gent, where he managed 37 goals and 15 assists in 83 appearances.
In the UEFA Europa League, Lille’s form is just as impressive. The French side is undefeated in the competition and sent a big statement in their 3-0 win over AC Milan. Lille is currently winless in 14 major European home matches (D7 L7, excluding qualifiers) since beating KAA Gent in a UEFA Europa League tie in December 2010 but on the other side, they lost only one match in the last 17 in all competitions.
Jose Fonte, Reinildo, and Burak Yilmaz all missed the 4-0 win over Lorient due to suspension but are available to play here. Boubakary Soumare and Luiz Araujo are fitness doubts, while it looks like Renato Sanches will be unavailable.
Lille: Maignan; Pied, Fonte, Botman, Bradaric; Ikone, Andre, Soumare, Bamba; David, Yazici
Milan had some trouble on the pitch just before the international break. Lille punished them with a 3-0 for their bad defensive display and the game vs Verona which finished in a 2-2 draw was a good sign that Milan needs some days off and restart. Stefano Pioli and his assistant had a positive test on coronavirus so Daniele Bonera had to work with the team and Milan came back on the winning path sooner than later.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic rolled back the years with another sensational double, inspiring Milan to their first Serie A victory away to Napoli in a decade. Curiously, the last time the Rossoneri conquered the Stadio San Paolo was in October 2010 and Ibrahimovic was on target then too. The 39-year-old steered an extraordinary header in from the Theo Hernandez cross, then improvised using his knee to meet an Ante Rebic assist. Dries Mertens finally managed to beat impressive Gianluigi Donnarumma, but Tiemoue Bakayoko saw red against his old club for a second bookable offense. Jens Petter Hauge rounded out the scoreline in stoppages with his debut Serie A strike.
Ibrahimovic suffered a thigh injuring during Milan’s 3-1 win over Napoli — in which he scored twice — and could miss the next three or four games. Mateo Musacchio and Rafael Leao are both doubts.
AC Milan: Donnarumma; Dalot, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Tonali, Kessie; Castillejo, Diaz, Krunic; Rebic

Both teams are more than capable to find a net and a goalscoring draw would be a satisfying result for the teams that are close to progress to the knockout stages of this competition.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
