Liverpool will book their place in the Champions League round of 16 if they beat Atalanta at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds kicked off their Champions League campaign in style, with the team recording a win in each of their first three group games, and, no doubt, they are eager to keep their 100% record intact. The Reds have been in stunning form so far, winning against Ajax, FC Midtjylland, and Atalanta with an aggregate score of 8-0.
Liverpool has been dealing with several injuries of late, particularly in defense where the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain unavailable, but that does not appear to have affected their form. Ahead of this game, Liverpool claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League and will be well psyched for the challenge ahead. They have been good in attack recently and head to this clash having scored in each of their last 10 matches.
Liverpool should be able to welcome Mohamed Salah back into their side after he returned a negative coronavirus test, with a positive test during international duty ruling him out of the Leicester win. Despite his possible return, Liverpool could still be without as many as nine players through injury. Team captain Jordan Henderson and summer signing Thiago Alcantara are due to the late fitness test, Rhys Williams should be fit if Klopp chooses to rest Fabinho. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all remain sidelined, while Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri are new to the treatment room.
Liverpool: Alisson; N Williams, R Williams, Matip, Robertson; Jones, Wijnaldum, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Jota
Atalanta fell to their first Champions League defeat of the season against Liverpool at the start of November, suffering a 5-0 home thrashing at the hands of the English champions having taken four points from two games prior vs Ajax and Danish champions Midtjylland. That defeat was the start of what has been a three-game winless run for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men, who have drawn their last two Serie A games, 1-1 and 0-0 against Inter Milan and Spezia, respectively.
Atalanta had the best scoring opportunities, forcing several Ivan Provedel saves and seeing a goal disallowed, while both teams hit the upright. It ended 0-0 at the Orogel Stadium in Cesena, but it was by no means a game short on incident. Spezia came flying out the blocks and rattled the woodwork in the opening minutes with Diego Farias, followed by Duvan Zapata at the other end. Robin Gosens did get the ball in the net but was denied by Duvan Zapata’s shoulder in an offside position. Provedel did the rest with heroics in the Spezia goal, particularly during the closing stages of the match.
Atalanta will be without Mattia Caldara until the New Year, Ruslan Malinovskyi is absent due to illness and Fabio Depaoli is also out. Robin Gosens, Marten de Roon, Jose Luis Palomino, and Pierluigi Gollini all returned during the goalless draw with Spezia.
Atalanta: Gollini; Toloi, Palomino, Djimsiti; Hateboer, Pasalic, Freuler, Mojica, Gomez; Zapata, Muriel

The first match result favored Liverpool performance but Atalanta missed several chances, Alison was brilliant on a few occasions and Zapata hit the bar. Both teams to score is the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
