Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield (Liverpool) in the 22nd round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8.15 pm (UK) on Wednesday, February 3.
LIVERPOOL VS BRIGHTON MATCH ANALYSIS
The defending champions, Liverpool, have left their barren run (D3, L2) behind with two 3-1 away wins on the trot – against Tottenham last Sunday and West Ham in midweek. They are in 3rd, two points behind Man Utd in 2nd, and four points from leaders Man City, who have a game in hand. As for Brighton, the Seagulls’s come into this match on the back of a three-game unbeaten run in the Premier League (W2, D1). After their most recent 1-0 win against Tottenham, the Seagulls are seven points above the bottom-three and their recent performances suggest they are out of a slump.
Liverpool have been in a poor run of form since the start of the year and have not scored a single goal in the Premier League in four matches, prior to the match with Spurs. It must be noted that the defending Champions have rarely looked so vulnerable in recent years. The Reds, however, remain in the top-four, and a title-hunt, as they returned to form in impressive fashion with two wins on the road against the two top-six teams.
They discovered their cutting edge in style at the expense of an uninspiring Spurs and toothless West Ham on the night. This was an outstanding result and performance by Liverpool in the face of yet more central defensive injury problems – makeshift centrebacks Fabinho and Matip were both ruled out. However, after fielding 12 different centre-back pairings in 21 top-flight games, the good news is that the Reds have signed defender Ben Davis from the second-tier Preston and are working on it to bring another centre back before the transfer window shuts.
Brighton, on the other hand, secured a solitary but vital PL point last Tuesday against fellow-strugglers Fulham as they reached the halfway mark of the campaign out of the relegation zone. The Fulham match represented an opportunity to put a major dent in visitors’ hopes of Premier League survival while enhancing their own by establishing an even bigger gap from the bottom three, but they had to wait for the Spurs to record their first home Premier League win in 16, as securing the top-flight survival remains a priority.
Brighton boss Graham Potter said the Seagulls produced their best performance for two years as they beat Tottenham after Leandro Trossard had grabbed the game's only goal. Coming into this fixture, Potter's team were the only side left in England's top four divisions without a win at home this season. A winless December may have had Brighton boss Potter looking over his shoulder, but three wins in their past four games in all competitions - including three clean sheets - suggests the Seagulls are starting to find the form they need to pull away from the bottom.

Liverpool are unbeaten in 12 meetings with Brighton in all competitions (W10 D2), while Brighton have lost eight of their last nine away league games against Liverpool, with their only win overall in the last 20 meetings all the way back to the FA Cup defeat in January 1984.
Brighton’s recent games have been tight affairs, with only one in the last five games ending in more than 2+ goals, while Liverpool have rediscovered their fire-power in the attack. Liverpool’s 68-game unbeaten home run in the Premier League ended at the hands of Burnley last time out at Anfield, but to expect them to lose twice in the row might be too generous.
