Liverpool host Crystal Palace at Anfield (Liverpool) in the final 38th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 4 pm (UK) on Sunday, May 23. Read our reasons for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace prediction and betting tips.
Barring an unforeseeable set of circumstances, victory for Liverpool will guarantee them a spot in next season’s Champions League. The Reds should be confident, as they are the only Premier League side unbeaten across the last nine gameweeks (W7, D2), while they’ve also won each of their previous four season finales by a 2+ goal margin. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace were beaten 3-1 by Arsenal on Wednesday after conceding twice in second-half injury time. This is Roy Hodgson's final game in charge of The Eagles before stepping down and it will take place at the home of one of his old clubs Liverpool.
Liverpool are unbeaten in nine league matches and made it four consecutive victories when powering to a 3-0 win at Burnley in midweek. Firmino, Nathaniel Phillips and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were on target at Turf Moor, where they had 20 attempts on goal. The Reds dropped as low as eighth in early March but have taken 23 points from the last 27 available to close in on CL qualification. Sunday is a final effectively for them, Leicester and Chelsea and The Reds need to make sure the performance is of the highest level.
A finish in the top-four looked incredibly unlikely just a couple of months ago, but a strong end to the season has given them the best possible chance. The Reds have been without Virgil van Dijk for almost the entirety of the season, and it hasn’t been until the past couple of weeks that the relationship between Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips has shone. It has been a difficult season for Liverpool, but on the final day, they could have a reason to celebrate if they can get the win they need to finish in the Champions League places.
As for Crystal Palace, The Eagles have been in fair form themselves of late, beating Sheffield Utd and Aston Villa this month. The Eagles looked on course to take a point off Arsenal at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, only to concede twice in stoppage time to go down 3-1. Two former Liverpool employees could be the main danger to their old club this weekend. Ex-Anfield boss Roy Hodgson will bow out as Palace manager, while ex-striker Christian Benteke, has scored in his last four appearances.
It will be an emotional afternoon in the visitor’s dugout, as Palace have decided to go in a new direction from next season, and only time will tell whether that will be the right way. Palace’s safety in the Premier League this term has never been in doubt, and they will comfortably finish in the middle of the table this season. However, despite their former employees’ presence adding a bit of extra spice to the occasion, this should be a routine triumph for the Reds.

Liverpool meet Crystal Palace having previously won seven straight PL meetings against Hodgson’s Eagles, with an aggregate scoreline of 22-5 for them. This fixture isn’t one with happy memories for Palace. They have conceded eleven goals in their last two games against the Reds, which includes the 7-0 defeat that they suffered at Selhurst Park back in December.
Palace have a terrible record against the Reds, and Liverpool will be a side that are aiming to achieve their top-four finish. Both of those factors point to a home victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday.
