Liverpool host Everton at Anfield (Liverpool) in the 25th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 5.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, February 20. Read our reasons for Liverpool vs Everton prediction and betting tips.
After they had left their dry spell (D3, L2) behind them with two 3-1 away wins on the trot – against Tottenham and West Ham, the Reds suffered two consecutive defeats at Anfield and an away defeat to their ex-boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester. Their title defending hopes are now shattered and the Reds, who sit in 6th, are turning their attention to securing the top-four. On the other hand, Everton have lost two of their three games in hand over Liverpool, which means they can’t overtake the bitter rivals at the weekend, but the Toffees are definitely pushing for one of the top-six spots that promise European football next season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are not at all having a good time in England as they suffered a painful defeat at the hands of Leicester (3-1) last weekend and got humiliated by Pep Guardiola’s Man City at Anfield (4-1) prior to that. Liverpool have 40 points from 24 games and have only won 2 out of their last 5 league games, which is their worse form since Klopp was appointed manager. However, a 2-0 win at Puskas Arena in Budapest against Leipzig in the Champions League could give them a huge boost ahead of Saturday.
The Reds may have also found the solution to their defensive issues, as well. Keeping Henderson at centre-back might not have seemed appealing just a couple of weeks ago, but the fact he has a partnership beginning to form with Kabak might mean, even with Fabinho available, it is worthwhile keeping the number 14 where he is. That is the dilemma that Klopp must wrestle with as they look to better on the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign which proved too costly for them in the longer run.
On the other hand, the Toffees come into this Merseyside derby just three points behind sixth-placed Liverpool with one game in hand and it would be a huge feather in Ancelotti's cap if he delivered a Champions League slot in his first full season. But while Everton have impressed this term they have also thrown in the odd dodgy display to lose momentum, crashing against West Ham, Newcastle, and lastly, Fulham at Goodison since the turn of the year.
Carlo Ancelotti had drilled Everton to defend, frustrate and counter Man City and in keeping with their previous 16 assignments the Premier League leaders dismissed the challenge with ease. The visitors dominated possession from the outset but met determined resistance from an Everton side who, as their manager readily admits, are more comfortable when forced to defend than when committing to an open game.

Liverpool meet Everton unbeaten in their last 23 meetings with the Blues in all competitions (W11 D12), their longest unbeaten run against an opponent in their history. However, it is the 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture at the Goodison in October that started Liverpool’s decline after losing Van Dijk for a season in that game.
The Reds have lost consecutive league games for the first time under Jürgen Klopp only a week ago, but they’ve now lost three in a row in the Premier League for the first time since November 2014 when managed by Brendan Rodgers. However, a CL win could kick-start their league campaign as well.
Everton are unbeaten in each of their last seven Premier League away games (W5 D2). They last enjoyed a longer such streak in March 2016 (8 matches), but haven’t won any of their last 20 Premier League away games against Liverpool (D9 L11), last winning at Anfield in September 1999 thanks to a Kevin Campbell goal.
