Liverpool host Leipzig at the neutral location - Puskas Arena (Budapest) in the second leg of the last sixteen tie in the Champions League and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Wednesday, March 10. Read our reasons for Liverpool vs Leipzig prediction and betting tips.
Liverpool might welcome a return to Champions League action given their mounting domestic struggles. Defending a 2-0 first-leg lead following a record sixth consecutive home league defeat at the weekend, playing at a neutral venue might release the shackles somewhat for a side that hasn’t registered a goal in open play at Anfield this calendar year. As for the 'visitors’, their recent results have seen them battling it out with Bayern Munich for the top position in the Bundesliga, which must offer confidence to Leipzig, who travel in great domestic form. They lie second in the Bundesliga following a 3-0 win over Freiburg, having won their last eight domestic matches.
A freefalling Liverpool have one chance left to rescue what has turned into a car crash of a season when they host Leipzig for the second leg of the Champions League Last 16 clash. Liverpool will at least take comfort in that it would take the mother of all collapses really for them to be eliminated given they are 2-0 up from the first leg in Budapest and the fact that the Reds have never failed to progress after holding a first-leg lead in European competition.
But they appear to be in almost complete disarray at the moment, particularly at what was once their fortress of Anfield, with Fulham the latest club to inflict misery on them with a weekend win marking their sixth home defeat on the trot. Even the most optimistic Scouser would struggle to think they can land another Champions League trophy this season and it's a case of trying to get as far as they can while hoping their savage injury list clears, which includes the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson.
On the other hand, to be fair to the German outfit, Leipzig started brightly last month. However, Liverpool began to assert themselves thereafter and ultimately capitalised on a couple of errors to claim a 2-0 triumph. Mo Salah latched onto a woeful back pass by Marcel Sabitzer to slot home in the 53rd minute and Sadio Mane took advantage of Nordi Mukiele’s slip-up soon after. The boss Nagelsmann deserves plenty of credit for moulding together a tight unit that is very easy to watch when on song.
Leipzig are second in the Bundesliga, just two points behind Bayern Munich and have been in excellent form in their homeland. Their only blemish was that error-strewn performance in the first leg in Hungary. That's their only defeat in nine games and they've won the other eight. Leipzig have scored three goals in three of their last four games. They simply have to go for it at Puskas Arena, which could though lead to chances at both ends. They are also extremely unlikely to suffer the stage fright that seemed to paralyse them in the first leg.

Liverpool meet Leipzig having never previously been eliminated from a European knockout tie after winning away from home in the first leg. However, the last time they won both legs in the Round of 16 was back in 2008/09 against Real Madrid.
This competition has always brought the best out of Liverpool, though, both in terms of past sides and the current set-up. With their opponents having to attack, even though we like the odds for the Liverpool win, we would rather bet on a high-scoring affair on Wednesday night.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
