Liverpool host Southampton at Anfield (Liverpool) in the 35th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8.15 pm (UK) on Saturday, May 8. Read our reasons for Liverpool vs Southampton prediction and betting tips.
It’s a massive game for Jurgen Klopp's fallen kings as they bid to end a desperately disappointing season on a positive note by sealing a Champions League slot. Though, with Chelsea, West Ham, and Tottenham all winning, their chances are much slimmer than before the weekend and the cancelled Man Utd match. Meanwhile, Southampton are all but safe from relegation after a 1-1 home draw against Leicester ended their three-match losing streak. Actually topping the table back in November, the Saints have been on a sorry run since, with only relegated Sheffield Utd claiming fewer points than Southampton's 21.
Liverpool won the Premier League title at a canter last season and many expected them to do the same in this campaign. However, it wasn’t to be with the Reds starting the week down in sixth place, and they could miss out on CL football next season. A strong finish is expected from Jurgen Klopp’s men to save their season and battle back into the top four. However, the Reds have really struggled for any kind of consistency for a good while now.
Injuries in defence have really hurt them all season and it hasn't helped that their strikers have been unusually wasteful in front of goal. Jurgen Klopp's side have remarkably scored just 17 goals from 267 shots in the Premier League in 2021. It's fair to say there is more riding on Saturday’s match for Liverpool than the Saints. . Liverpool have drawn their last two games against Leeds and Newcastle so they can ill afford any more dropped points if they are to pip the above-mentioned trio to fourth place.
As for Southampton, they showed plenty of spirit when ending a run of three straight league and cup defeats by drawing 1-1 with Leicester at St Mary’s. Saints were reduced to 10 men early on following the controversial dismissal of Jannik Vestergaard but battled on and actually led through a James Ward-Prowse penalty on 61 minutes. Jonny Evans headed the Foxes level not long after but Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side hung on bravely for a point.
It is perhaps a sign of the last few months that a draw like this should get Saints fans excited, but Ralph Hasenhuttl and his men need to get the pride in Southampton Football Club back. If they put the effort from the Leicester match into every game, then the Saints would be where they started the season. Hopefully, they can build on this performance and use it as a springboard for the last few games, using the summer to re-evaluate, strengthen the squad and kick on next season.

Liverpool meet Southampton looking for a win after three draws on the bounce in all competitions. On the other hand, the Saints are without a win in four and could do a double over Liverpool here after celebrating 1-0 in the reverse fixture at the turn of the year.
Southampton upset Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium in early January but have not enjoyed travelling to Anfield for Premier League matches in recent years. Saints were stuffed 4-0 at this venue last season, following a couple of 3-0 defeats, with Mohamed Salah scoring half of his side’s 10 goals in those games.
We expect the Reds to prevail here again so the BettingKick’s Liverpool vs Southampton prediction is: Liverpool win

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
