LIVERPOOL VS TOTTENHAM MATCH ANALYSIS
Liverpool remain 2nd in the standings with 25 points, only on goal difference below the Spurs, after a 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday. They are now unbeaten in the last eight Premier League matches (W4, D4) since their defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. Victory on Wednesday will see the defending champions top of the table for the first time in this new campaign. As for Tottenham, they have been in impressive form lately. They are unbeaten in 20 of their last 21 matches in all competitions (W14, D5, L2). In the Premier League, they have picked up 25 points so far and are still joint-top of the table after a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Liverpool got off to a great start of the campaign with three wins, but then the Reds hit the wall against Villa, shipping 7 goals in the process. It was the first time Liverpool had conceded seven goals since 1963 and it was only their fourth Premier League defeat since January 2019. However, they bounced back in the league with an eight-game unbeaten run, which saw them share the points with the Seagulls at the weekend. Meanwhile, they have drawn Milan in the knock-out stages as group winners and were saddened to hear about their ex-boss Gerrard Houllier's death.
As for their most recent match at London, the Reds missed out on the chance to go top of the Premier League and were somewhat fortunate to come away with a draw from a game in which they were second best for large periods to an impressive Fulham. On a weekend that also saw Chelsea, Tottenham, and both Manchester clubs drop points, Liverpool will be disappointed that they failed to take advantage, but Salah converted penalty was all they could get on the night.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are playing some of the best football recently under Mourinho. The deadly double act of Kane and Son Heung-min that has been at the heart of their renaissance have now combined for 32 Premier League goals, the second most of any duo behind former Chelsea players Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard (36). Maybe it’s the early days, but the consistency, clinical approach, and relentless efficiency of Spurs under Jose Mourinho means they resemble a side who can have a big say in the Premier League title race.
As for their Sunday’s draw at Crystal Palace, Harry Kane put Spurs on course for a sixth win in seven league games with a shot from 30 yards, but Palace deservedly equalised when Jeffrey Schlupp bundled home after goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’ mistake. Despite stretching their unbeaten league run to 11 matches, this will feel like two points dropped for the visitors after Palace’s keeper Guita kept Spurs at bay with three excellent stops.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 15 Premier League games against Tottenham (W10 D4). The Reds have also won their last four against Spurs in the league, all by a margin of just one goal.
The Reds' 65-game home unbeaten run will be put to the test by Tottenham who are one of two teams yet to lose an away league game this season.
With so many injury absentees for the Reds and Erik Lamela being Tottenham's only confirmed absentee for the trip to Liverpool, Spurs will be confident of securing a positive result at Anfield.
