2 - 1
Liverpool host west Ham at Anfield (Liverpool) in the 7th round of the Premier League on Saturday, October 31 and the natch kicks off at 5.30pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
Liverpool had a perfect start with three wins out of three, before being dismantled by Aston Villa in a 7-2 defeat, the biggest loss so far under Klopp at Liverpool. They followed it with a draw (2-2) in the Merseyside derby, spoiled by too much controversy, but enough to move them up the table and after the win against the Blades in the last round (2-1) they are 2nd below Everton on goal difference.
West Ham started the campaign with two consecutive defeats, but since their 3rd round 4-0 win against Wolves, they are unbeaten in the league with another equally impressive away win (0-3) at Leicester, a spectacular draw (3-3) against the Spurs after the international break, and last but not least, a draw against last seasons runners-up Man City. Those eight points from their four-matches-unbeaten run have been enough to put them in the 12th place in the league ahead of their visit to Liverpool.
MATCH ANALYSIS
After a great start to the campaign with three wins, the Reds hit the wall against Villa, shipping 7 goals in the process. It was the first time Liverpool had conceded seven goals since 1963 and it was only their fourth Premier League defeat since January 2019. Also, Liverpool's 14 goals conceded is a tally it took them 15 games to reach in 2019-20. You can blame it on injuries or defensive high line or individual mistakes, but other opponents will take notes and it's up to Klopp to lift their spirits.
After a controversial local derby where Liverpool were denied a stoppage-time winner by the video assistant referee and lost Virgil van Dijk for a season probably, they bounced back against Sheffield Utd after a hard-fought comeback victory at Anfield. Despite Liverpool facing spirited opposition, Roberto Firmino converted from Sadio Mane's saved shot four minutes before half-time and Diogo Jota's header completed the turnaround midway through the second half to extend their unbeaten home record to 62 games.
As for west Ham, the Hammers have managed to regroup after a poor start of the campaign to record an emphatic victory against Wolves which was followed by an even more splendid away win in Leicester as they won successive Premier League games while keeping a clean sheet for the first time since May 2019. The Hammers continued in style as they came back from three goals down with under 10 minutes to go to rescue a point in an astonishing comeback against Tottenham, which makes West Ham the first team in Premier League history to avoid defeat in a game having trailed by 3+ goals as late as the 81st minute.
The unbeaten run continued against Man City last Saturday when Michail Antonio scored a wonderful overhead volley to earn his side a hard-fought point. West Ham worked tirelessly but had to dig deep to secure a first point against City since January 2016, and eventually, it was an impressive point for West Ham, who had lost their previous eight games against City by an aggregate score of 25-3. The game at Anfield will probably be their biggest test of the season so far.
