LIVERPOOL VS WOLVES MATCH ANALYSIS
Liverpool’s draw against City (1-1) before the international break meant that the Reds have let Tottenham and Leicester overtake them at the top of the table, but they are now back on top, after a convincing win against the Foxes (3-0) and a 1-1 draw at Brighton last weekend. Liverpool are now 2nd in the standings with 21 points, only on goal difference below the Spurs. They are now unbeaten in the league in the last six matches (W3, D3) since their defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. As for Wolves, they were unbeaten in four games (W3-D1) before losing to Leicester (1-0) before the international break. Since then, they have picked up four more points, from a home draw against the Saints (1-1) and a win at the Emirates (1-2) last weekend. Wolves have accumulated 17 points so far, which has been enough for 7th place in the standings.
Liverpool got off to a great start of the campaign with three wins, but then the Reds hit the wall against Villa, shipping 7 goals in the process. It was the first time Liverpool had conceded seven goals since 1963 and it was only their fourth Premier League defeat since January 2019. However, they bounced back with an eight-game unbeaten run (W6-D2) in all competitions before losing to Atalanta at home in the CL, but are now top of their Champions League group after Ajax win (1-0) and joint-top in the Premier League, as well.
In their latest Premier League match, Pascal Gross' controversial injury-time penalty rescued a draw for Brighton, although Liverpool still went top of the Premier League. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was furious with the officials as they walked off the pitch and captain Jordan Henderson said he would like to see VAR scrapped. Another downside to this match for the Reds was the loss of James Milner to a hamstring injury. However, after securing their place in the Champions League knockout stage in midweek they can now concentrate on the title defense. Even though the champions are plagued with injuries, they are still favourites to win on Sunday.
The Wolves, on the other hand, have upped their form recently. After losing key players Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota to other Premier League clubs, it took Wolves a little time for new players to ease in. While stars like Raul Jimenez continue to shine, youngsters like Pedro Neto and Max Kilman have established themselves in the first XI. However, after their win against Arsenal, the Wolves are yet to score more than twice in a Premier League match so far this season, with the bottom two sides Burnley and Sheffield Utd, the only other sides yet to do so.
Their win at the Emirates was overshadowed by a nasty head injury to their striker Raul Jimenez, who is out for the foreseeable future and his absence could really hurt their chances on Sunday as Wolves don't really have a replacement. They are now up to seventh and sit just four points off the summit in an increasingly congested top half of the table. Wolves have a superb record against the big teams in general but have lost each of the last four against Liverpool. However, their recent form suggests they can hope for another upset on the road.

Liverpool have lost just one of their 12 Premier League meetings with Wolves (W9 D2), winning each of the last seven in a row.
Wolves’ task will be even harder having in mind that Liverpool are currently enjoying the second-longest unbeaten home run in English top-flight history – 64 games (W53 – D11). However, Wolves' tally of 17 points is their most after 10 games of a top-flight campaign since 1979-80.
Diogo Jota – a former Wolves player – who has scored in each of his first four Premier League home games for Liverpool will be a man to watch, while Podence and Neto will have to shoulder the goalscoring burden for the visiting team in the absence of Jimenez.
