Luton host Rotherham at the Kenilworth Road (Luton) in the rescheduled 26th round of the Championship and the natch kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday, May 4. Read our reason for Luton vs Rotherham prediction and betting tips.
The point in a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough stretched Town’s unbeaten run to five matches in the Championship but it could have been more after Glen Rea scored his third goal this season, before Middlesbrough swiftly equalised. Boss Nathan Jones was left to bemoan the missed chances as his side showed why they have not made the leap to be in with a shout of making the play-offs. As for Rotherham, the Millers took control of their destiny in the Championship relegation dogfight after netting a late leveller against Blackburn. Win at Luton would lift them out of the drop zone, above Derby on goal difference, and hand them the advantage on what promises to be a nerve-jangling final day of the season.
Luton looked by far more likely of the two sides to win at the weekend but were restricted to a draw by Neil Warnock’s Boro. Hatters boss Nathan Jones felt his side’s lethargic display in the first half was the reason they could only manage to share the spoils on Saturday afternoon. The Hatters took the lead through Glen Rea's third goal of the campaign after 19 minutes only to concede an equaliser within 60 seconds of the restart. Leading scorer James Collins then missed a penalty with 19 minutes go to, his effort easily saved by visiting keeper Jordan Archer.
Hatters though gained another point to make it five unbeaten (W3, D2) - a season's best - despite dropping to 12th place with Millwall winning at home to Bristol City. It has been a campaign of improvement compared to their 2019/20 run – Nathan Jones’ side have already surpassed their 51 points tally and look to finish higher than the 16th spot. And with a game in hand over their rivals in and around the mid-table places, win on Tuesday night can help them push for a place in the top-ten.
On the other hand, Rotherham kept their survival hopes alive with a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers as Lewis Wing's 86th-minute free kick earned the Millers a 1-1 draw in Saturday's clash at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. The Rams are three points ahead of Rotherham, Wednesday and Wycombe - but the Millers have a game in hand and a superior goal difference. So, Paul Warne's men will go above Wayne Rooney's side if they beat Luton on Tuesday night.
Due to a double Covid outbreak, the Millers have been playing catch-up and their hopes of avoiding relegation have been kept alive because of their resulting games in hand. However, they have not made the most of them and as things stand, they are in 22nd place, three points behind Derby, with only one game in hand. Rotherham are battling for their Championship lives and badly need a win here to stand the chance of overtaking Derby.

Luton meet Rotherham at home for the first time since December 2009 when they convincingly won 3-0. They can also do a league double over the Millers after celebrating a 1-0 win at Aesseal Stadium in the reverse fixture in November.
Luton are trying to finish the campaign on the most positive note and in top-ten if possible, but otherwise don’t have too much to play for. Unlike Rotherham, who are determined to maintain their Championship status and live to fight another day. If they lose to Luton, they would need Sheffield Wed to beat Derby on the final day and also beat Cardiff.
We expect a cagey affair here and the BettingKick’s Luton vs Rotherham prediction is: Under 2.5 goals
