Borussia Mönchengladbach will look to feed once again France international Marcus Thuram against Augsburg on Saturday.
Thuram is a rising star in Bundesliga, CL, and the national team. He featured three times for France during the international break, debuting in the 2-0 friendly defeat to Finland. He also entered the pitch as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 win over Portugal and claimed an assist in the 4-2 win over Sweden. The 23-year-old forward's call-up was just a reward for his consistent performances in Gladbach colors: namely a joint team-leading 10 Bundesliga goals last season and three more strikes, as well as five assists, in all competitions in the early part of 2020/21.
He's expected to be fit for the visit of Augsburg, but in-form attacking midfielder Jonas Hofmann will play no part after picking up a thigh injury on international duty with Germany. Inter Milan loanee Valentino Lazaro - who scored a sensational scorpion-kick consolation goal in the 4-3 loss to Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 7 - is in line to deputize. Alassane Plea is isolating so Breel Embolo could lead the line. Marco Rose's side could move to within a point of the top four if results go their way.

Augsburg was also beaten last time out, punished for the poor performance in a 3-0 home defeat to Hertha Berlin. Heiko Herrlich's men downed title candidates Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 2, but have claimed just four points from a possible 15 since. They begin the weekend only a point behind Gladbach in 10th. Former Borussia forward Andre Hahn has been one of the surprises of the season with a team-leading three goals. Hahn had 19 goals and 11 assists in 95 games for Gladbach between 2014 and 2017.
His input carries even greater weight, given Florian Niederlechner's flat start to the campaign. The 30-year-old had a direct hand in 21 of 45 league goals last term but hasn't scored since the penultimate weekend of 2019/20. Not helped by injury setbacks, Alfred Finnbogason is likewise struggling to recreate the kind of form that helped him register double figures in his first two full seasons at the club.

Gladbach needs results consistency, but having in mind that they are competing also in the UCL it is so far so good season. Augsburg is struggling but they had enough time to try to find the form from the start of the season. A tough game is expected but Mgladbach must be favorites for the win.
