Marcus Thuram will look to fire Borussia Mönchengladbach back to winning ways against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
Gladbach lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in UEFA Champions League Group B on Wednesday but still advanced to the last 16 as runners-up. The joy of reaching the Champions League knockout rounds for the first time was hurt by the fact that it's now three games without a win in all competitions for them, following their 3-2 loss to Inter Milan and 2-2 draw with Freiburg. Marco Rose's top-four hopefuls are unbeaten in three Bundesliga matches and have only lost one of their last nine.
Thuram was on target in their most recent win - a 4-1 triumph over rock-bottom Schalke on Bundesliga Matchday 9 - but it's club captain Lars Stindl who heads the team scoring charts domestically with four league goals. Gladbach's top scorer Stindl has netted twice in 15 career meetings with Hertha. With sufficient recovery time between the trip to Madrid and Saturday's contest, both forwards - along with the two-goal Alassane Plea - should start against Hertha. Midfielder Denis Zakaria was a second-half substitute in the Spanish capital but could be involved from the start. Jonas Hofmann remains on the sidelines.
Gladbach: Sommer - Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Wendt - Zakaria, Neuhaus - Lazaro, Stindl (c), Thuram - Plea
Out: Hofmann (thigh)
Doubtful: Bensebaini (match fitness), Jantschke (knee)
Coach: Marco Rose
Hertha travel to the Borussia-Park, pushed by a comeback win over city rivals Union. Following a run of four straight defeats, the Old Lady have taken eight points from the last 15, only losing to an Erling Haaland-inspired Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 8 in that time, holding unbeaten duo Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen to draws, and beating Augsburg 3-0. Hertha got a result from a losing position for the first time this season in their 3-1 win over Union. Krzysztof Piatek was the hero in the derby, scoring twice off the bench. Piatek has scored five of his seven Bundesliga goals as a substitute. Had six-goal top scorer Matheus Cunha not picked up a yellow card and mandatory one-match ban, the Poland international may have been among the substitutes once more.
As it is, he is expected to lead the line, with Jhon Cordoba still out through injury. Hertha's leading marksmen after the suspended Cunha are Cordoba and Piatek (three apiece). Marvin Plattenhardt has started the last four at left-back, while former Manchester City youngster Jaivaro Dilrosun could be rewarded for his second-half assist against Union with a first Bundesliga start of the 2020/21 campaign.
Hertha: Schwolow - Pekarik, Boyata (c), Torunarigha, Plattenhardt - Stark, Guendouzi - Lukebakio, Darida, Dilrosun - Piatek
Out: Ascacibar (muscular), Cordoba (ankle), Cunha (suspended), Löwen (thigh)
Doubtful: Alderete (pelvis)
Coach: Bruno Labbadia

Gladbach has thrown away points from a winning position on five occasions in 2020/21, but are unbeaten in five home matches (W2, D3) and have won six of their last seven against Hertha. The home win is the most reasonable option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
