Borussia Mönchengladbach will try to move into the top six with victory over Werder Bremen on Tuesday.
Gladbach is no doubt still cursing their luck after conceding an injury-time equalizer from a penalty in their 2-2 draw at VfB Stuttgart, but Marco Rose & Co. have had little time to dwell on that. Seven points from nine - including a win over champions Bayern Munich - is still a good return in 2021, and they'll be confident of continuing their excellent record against Bremen.
December's Player of the Month Lars Stindl is on the verge of double figures for the season after netting in Stuttgart, while Alassane Plea is pushing for a return to the starting line-up after getting through 30 minutes at the weekend. Stindl is Gladbach's nine-goal top scorer so far this Bundesliga season. He has scored eight times in 18 competitive outings against Bremen, making the Green-Whites his joint-favorite opposition alongside Augsburg. Fellow attacker Thuram remains suspended, however.
Gladbach: Sommer - Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Wendt - Kramer, Neuhaus - Herrmann, Stindl (c), Hofmann - Plea
Out: Lazaro (groin), Reitz (pelvis), Thuram (suspended)
Doubtful: Doucoure (match fitness), Scally (knock)
Coach: Marco Rose
Werder has only won one of their last 15 Bundesliga matches in Mönchengladbach - a 4-1 victory on 23 October 2010 but late goals from skipper Theodor Gebre Selassie and Felix Agu gave them a welcome home win over Augsburg on Saturday, which followed on by an impressive 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen. Those results have lifted Florian Kohfeldt's side to 12th, and a rare victory over Gladbach would further ease concerns about being dragged into the relegation mix.
US striker Sargent will be looking to add to three goals he's got in all competitions, while Kosovan attacker Milot Rashica will be keen to add to the couple of minutes he got against Augsburg following his return from a lengthy injury lay-off. Kohfeldt has confirmed, however, that left-back Ludwig Augustinsson and striker Niclas Füllkrug are still sidelined through injury. Midfielder Leonardo Bittencourt is Bremen's next-best scorer this term, after four-goal Füllkrug, with three and has been promised minutes, what that means remains to be seen.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Veljkovic, Toprak, Friedl - Gebre Selassie (c), Eggestein, Mbom, Möhwald, Agu - Sargent, Salke
Out: Augustinsson (thigh), Erras (muscular), Füllkrug (ankle), Groß (muscular)
Doubtful: Woltemade (ill)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt

Gladbach is unbeaten in their last nine Bundesliga meetings with Werder (W6, D3) and they have recorded more home wins over Bremen than any other Bundesliga club (30 in 51 games). We going with the tradition and the home win is our preferable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
