After his hat-trick heroics last time out, Jean-Philippe Mateta and his Mainz side will welcome Andrej Kramaric and Hoffenheim on Sunday.
Mainz finally enjoyed the taste of victory for the first time in 2020/21 last weekend at Freiburg, with Mateta inspiring the team once again. The Frenchman hit his second Bundesliga hat-trick in the space of just 38 first-half minutes, taking his record for the season to a team-high seven. A maiden win under Jan-Moritz Lichte took Mainz out of the relegation zone and up to within four points of Sunday's opponents Hoffenheim.
Mateta's hat-trick against Freiburg on Matchday 8 puts him on seven goals for the season, behind only Robert Lewandowski (11) and Erling Haaland (10) in the overall scoring charts. The French forward is the first player in Mainz's history to have so many goals to his name at this stage of a season.
Mateta will be the key man once again at the OPEL-Arena, while the return of captain Danny Latza from suspension will provide a boost in midfield. Latza should line-up alongside Leandro Barreiro after the Luxembourg international's inspired performance against Freiburg at the Schwarzwald-Stadion. Meanwhile, Jonathan Burkardt will also be hoping to return to the squad if he can overcome the cold which kept him out last weekend.
Mainz: Zentner - St. Juste, Hack, Niakhate - Öztunali, Barreiro, Latza (c), Brosinski - Boetius, Quaison - Mateta
Out: Mwene (ankle), Szalai (knee)
Doubtful: Burkardt (cold)
Coach: Jan-Moritz Lichte
Another striker who sat on seven goals for the campaign is Kramaric, who got his name back on the scoresheet in Hoffenheim's 3-3 draw with VfB Stuttgart last weekend. The Croatian has netted in each of his four league appearances so far in 2020/21, having missed four games before his return on Matchday 7. The 29-year-old - who has also scored four times in six appearances against Mainz - scored from the penalty as Hoffenheim secured passage to the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday in a 2-0 win over Liberec. The Croatian is the best penalty taker in the league at present, having scored all three spot-kicks taken in 2020/21.
Kramaric will have the scoring support of English loanee Ryan Sessegnon from the left after the wing-back grabbed his first Bundesliga goal against Stuttgart. Ryan Sessegnon scored his first Bundesliga goal with his first shot taken in Germany's top flight in the Matchday 8 draw with Stuttgart. Sebastian Hoeneß is still working with a depleted squad, however, with Sargis Adamyan and Ermin Bicakcic ruled out. Meanwhile, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Ishak Belfodil have been working on their fitness levels individually, with Benjamin Hübner and Pavel Kaderabek also on the verge of returning to the squad.
Hoffenheim: Baumann (c) - Posch, Vogt, Akpoguma - Rudy, Grillitsch, Samassekou, Sessegnon - Baumgartner, Kramaric - Dabbur
Out: Adamyan (not included), Bicakcic (knee), Stafylidis (shoulder)
Doubtful: Bruun Larsen (not included), Hübner (ankle), Kaderabek (muscular)
Coach: Sebastian Hoeneß

Mainz shocked Freiburg last time out with three well-taken goals inside the first half. Hoffenheim will be much careful after that display but both teams to score seems like a very reasonable bet with top strikers as Mateta and Kramarić involved.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
