Man City host Aston Villa at the Etihad (Manchester) in the postponed 1st round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Wednesday, January 20.
Man City are flying at present and are up to second in the league, coming into this match on the back of a fifteen-game unbeaten run (W12, D3) in all competitions. Their last four games saw them reach the finals of the League Cup, progress to the Round 4 of the FA Cup and beat Brighton and Crystal Palace in the league, all without conceding once. As for Aston Villa, Wednesday's match will be the first time Villa's senior side have played since New Year's Day following an outbreak of coronavirus in their squad, with the club's only outing since then seeing their youngsters knocked out of the FA Cup Round 3 by a strong Liverpool side. With three games in hand, they are in good position to fight for the European berths, but this one will be the thoughest test of those.
It was after their impressive victory at Chelsea on 3 January that Pep Guardiola declared his Manchester City were back. The 15 days since have reinforced that view, with Man City winning their last five Premier League matches to move up to second in the table ahead of the weekend's action. Pep Guardiola's side are ticking along nicely as everyone keep their focus on the other Manchester club’s revival. Guardiola's men were as low as 15th at one stage in the campaign and have only occupied a top-four spot for less than a week throughout 2020-21 so far, yet they suddenly find themselves with the title race effectively in their hands. Two goals from John Stones helped City to a comfortable 4-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace on Sunday, becoming the first team this season to string five top-flight wins together in the process.
Villa, on the other hand, play a fourth straight match against a team from last season’s top four, with results so far not going their way (D1, L2). That’s after registering 11 points in the PL during December - their most in a single month since April 2010. That has helped Villa to record 26 points after 15 games, a huge improvement on the 15 they managed after 15 rounds during 2019/20. Coming into this game, only their Wednesday’s hosts have kept more clean sheets (9) in the Premier League this season than Aston Villa (8), but the visitors have conceded the least on the road (5). While Villa’s teenagers were ultimately outgunned by Liverpool in their most recent FA Cup game, their brave display was further evidence of the progress Smith's side have made this season.

Man City have won 14 of their last 15 league home games against Aston Villa (L1), including each of the last 10 in a row by an aggregate score of 33-4, meaning Villa are winless in their last nine meetings with Man City in all competitions (D1 L8).
City have been rock solid defensively, which has been the key to their revival after a slow start. They boast the best defensive record in the league overall with only 13 goals conceded from their 17 games, but in Aston Villa, who have impressed with their brand of attacking football this season, they come up against the second-best. Dean Smith’s side have won three of their last five PL games and are playing with confidence, inspired by their talisman Jack Grealish and driven on by the tireless McGinn. Regardless of the outcome in this match, Villans have exceeded expectations this season.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
