Man City host Aston Villa at the Etihad (Manchester) in the postponed 1st round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Wednesday, January 20.
Man City are flying at present and are up to second in the league, coming into this match on the back of a fifteen-game unbeaten run (W12, D3) in all competitions. Their last four games saw them reach the finals of the League Cup, progress to the Round 4 of the FA Cup and beat Brighton and Crystal Palace in the league, all without conceding once. Villa, on the other hand, play a fourth straight match against a team from last season’s top four, with results so far not going their way (D1, L2). That’s after registering 11 points in the PL during December - their most in a single month since April 2010. That has helped Villa to record 26 points after 15 games, a huge improvement on the 15 they managed after 15 rounds during 2019/20. Coming into this game, only their Wednesday’s hosts have kept more clean sheets (9) in the Premier League this season than Aston Villa (8), but the visitors have conceded the least on the road (5). While Villa’s teenagers were ultimately outgunned by Liverpool in their most recent FA Cup game, their brave display was further evidence of the progress Smith's side have made this season.
