MAN CITY VS CRYSTAL PALACE MATCH ANALYSIS
Man City come into this match on the back of a fourteen-game unbeaten run (W11, D3) in all competitions. Their last three games saw them reach the finals of the League Cup, progress to Round 4 of the FA Cup, and beat Bright1on in the league. They are in brilliant form at the moment and with a game, in hand, they could go top of the league very soon. As for the Eagles, prior to this match, they were knocked out by Wolves (1-0) at the Moulinex from the FA Cup Round 3 and shared the points with Arsenal (0-0) at the Emirates in the league. They are 13th in the league and could finish the week in the top-half in the standings with an unlikely win here.
It was after their impressive victory at Chelsea on 3 January that Pep Guardiola declared his Manchester City were back. The 10 days since have reinforced that view, with Man City winning their last four Premier League matches to move up to third in the table ahead of the weekend's action. Pep Guardiola's side weren't quite at their best to beat Brighton, but are ticking along nicely as everyone focuses on Manchester United. They might not have been very impressive against the Seagulls, but the Foden-inspired 1-0 victory over Brighton at Etihad moved City into the top three for the first time this season.
It was also the first time, this season or last, that City have won seven games in a row in all competitions, or gone eight without defeat in the league or 14 unbeaten in all competitions.
Given that leaders Man Utd visit second-placed Liverpool on Sunday while Jurgen Klopp's men must also face Tottenham before January is over, City could be topping the table by the end of a month in which they entertain Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Sheffield Utd, and travel to West Brom.
Palace, on the other hand, held Arsenal to a goalless draw on Thursday night, but the stalemate means they have now won just one of their last seven league outings. The Eagles had a difficult run of games where Roy Hodgson’s men were five matches without a win (D3, L2). The two terrible defeats against Liverpool (0-7) and Aston Villa (3-0) left the Eagles wary of the relegation threat, meaning another defeat could have sent them on a downward spiral dangerously close to the red zone. Fortunately for them, they bounced back against hapless Blades.
They checked the Arsenal's recent resurgence on Thursday and claimed a hard-fought point from a forgettable encounter at the Emirates. Arsenal had a forgetful match, but all credits should go to Hodgson’s side whose nine shots is the most Arsenal have faced in the first half of a home Premier League game this season. The Eagles sought to burst forward following transitions, using the guile and pace of Eze and Wilfried Zaha to challenge the home defence and absolutely deserved another clean sheet.

Man City have won 6 of their 10 home league games against Crystal Palace (D3 L1), though they are winless in their last two (D1 L1). However, in Guardiola’s league managerial career, he has never failed to win in three consecutive home matches against an opponent.
In a season in which injuries and coronavirus have robbed Guardiola of so many of his star players so often, it has been a time for others to step up. No-one has done that more than Foden, who will be the player to keep an eye on as he now leads the City scoring charts.
Before Thursday's game, Hodgson described Palace's situation - 22 points, 10 clear of the bottom three - as somewhat comfortable. Thursday's point and their performance will only add to their sense of comfort when they go to Etihad.
