Man Utd host Southampton at the Old Trafford (Manchester) in the 22nd round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8.15 pm (UK) on Tuesday, February 2.
MAN UTD VS SOUTHAMPTON MATCH ANALYSIS
Man Utd lost further ground in the title race as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Arsenal on Saturday to leave them three points behind rivals Manchester City. A run of one win in four after going thirteen matches without a defeat in the league (W10, D3) needs to be improved upon if they are to overhaul City at the top of the table. As for the visitors, Southampton will feel aggrieved not to have secured at least a point in a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday night. A run of one win in eight, including three successive defeats, has seen them drop down to 11th.
Man Utd were top of the table at this stage of a campaign for the first time since the Sir Alex Ferguson era and will feel this is the right time for another assured display after a blip against Sheffield Utd (1-2) and a goalless but positive draw at the Emirates. Rashford, Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes, arguably their best player this season, are flying at the moment, but the jury is still out whether United are genuine title contenders.
After making it 18 Premier League games away from home without defeat there was still an air of frustration in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's body language towards the final whistle against the Gunners. United had plenty of possession but not the final flourish, with Portugal playmaker Bruno Fernandes having one of his quieter games and Cavani's radar wayward. Solskjaer did not look too disappointed in his post-match interview, but they may feel this was one that got away.
Southampton, on the other hand, after two consecutive goalless draws in the league and a huge 1-0 win against Liverpool, recorded back-to-back defeats at home against Arsenal (1-3) and Aston Villa (0-1) for the first time since their opening two games of this campaign. However, with a game in hand, the Saints could still catch up with the pack near the top with a win here.
Against Villa, Hasenhuttl’s side were left frustrated by the failure to finish. They have now failed to score in five of their past seven Premier League games and despite having enjoyed plenty of possession and stringing together several dangerous moves, could not manage one shot on target until the 70th minute. The number of chances created was at least a positive for Hasenhuttl, who said his side invested everything but must do better to convert them.

United's home form may not be great, but their four wins at Old Trafford have come in their last six home games, and they'll be confident of piling further misery upon this downtrodden Saints side. The stats also work in their favour as they are undefeated in the last five matches (W3, D2) and have suffered just 2 losses in their last 20 meetings.
Southampton have reached the halfway stage of their season with a healthy 29 points in the bank, although it is now one win in eight top-flight games for Hasenhuttl's side. There is much to admire about the way they have gone about their business this season but could do with little consistency at the moment.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
