Man Utd host West Ham at the Old Trafford (Manchester) in the fifth-round tie of the FA Cup and the match kicks off at 7.30 pm (UK) on Tuesday, February 9.
MAN UTD VS WEST HAM MATCH ANALYSIS
Man Utd knocked out Watford in Round 3 (1-0) and their arch-rivals Liverpool (3-2) on January 24 to get to this stage of the domestic cup and are coming into the midweek’s tie on the back of a historical 9-0 win against Southampton and a 3-3 draw against Everton on Saturday. As for West Ham, they are having one of the best Premier League campaigns in recent memory and have a chance to go far in the FA Cup, too. They have lost only once in their last ten matches in all competitions (W7, D2) and have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup after beating National League side Stockport (1-0) and League One’s Stockport (4-0) in rounds 3 and 4. They travel to Manchester for the most serious test so far, after already suffering a home defeat at the hands of the Red Devils in the league on December 5.
Man Utd haven’t been this close to the top of the table at this stage of a campaign since the Sir Alex Ferguson era and will feel this is the right time for another assured display after an unfortunate stoppage-time equalizer against Everton at the weekend. Rashford, Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes, arguably their best player this season, are flying at the moment, but the jury is still out whether United are genuine title contenders, so the progress in the FA Cup will be seen as a statement of intent.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men overcame their Merseyside rivals in a real FA Cup thriller, thanks to goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, and a beautiful Bruno Fernandes free-kick. They already played against the Hammers once this season - in their Premier League fixture back in December, when Ole’s men came from behind to win 3-1 in the capital. There’s been lots of traveling this season and Solskjaer will be happy and pleased with a home draw.
West Ham, on the other hand, last lifted the FA Cup 41 years ago, something they also managed in 1964 and 1975. With David Moyes' men sitting fifth in the League table and having won their previous six matches to make it eight unbeaten, The Hammers will go to Old Trafford high in confidence and looking to make it through to the sixth round for only the second time in ten years.
The last time The Hammers made it this far in the FA Cup they defeated Blackburn Rovers 5-1 in the fifth round before losing to Man United 2-1 in a sixth-round replay. The Hammers have progressed on four occasions when facing Man Utd in the Fa Cup, the most famous of which from a West Ham perspective came twenty years ago yesterday, on January 28th, 2001, when Paolo Di Canio scored the only goal of the game.

The clubs have previously met 12 times in the FA Cup, with the Reds claiming five victories to West Ham's four, with three draws. The most recent of these encounters was in April 2016 when Rashford and Marouane Fellaini scored as we won 2-1 away in a quarter-final replay, en route to lifting the trophy.
