MAN CITY VS BIRMINGHAM MATCH ANALYSIS
David faces Goliath at Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup last 64. The Citizens are on a four-game winning run in all competitions, with the team producing their best display of the season in a 3-1 crushing of Chelsea. On the other hand, The Blues have been totally out of form of late, with the team failing to score in the previous three Championship fixtures. Birmingham failed to impress in back-to-back losses to Derby (0-4) and Blackburn (0-2) coming into this FA Cup tie.
Pep Guardiola’s City are in sublime form. Since they lost to Tottenham Hotspur on 21 November, the Citizens have not lost a single competitive fixture. They have progressed from the group stages of the Champions League and will be playing Borussia Monchengladbach in the round of 16. They have also reached the semi-final of the EFL Cup, where they will face arch-rivals Manchester United. City are also 5th in the league with 2 games in hand which can take them to 2nd place if results elsewhere are in their favour. Pep Guardiola’s men were semi-finalists in last season’s FA Cup when they were knocked out by eventual winners Arsenal. City will be looking to go the extra mile and emulate their 2018/19 success in this season’s FA Cup.
Their opponents, Birmingham’s form is the exact opposite, with the Blues losing 5 out of their last 6 games and find themselves at 18th place in the Championship. Aitor Karanka’s men face an almost impossible task of beating Manchester City, but football is an unpredictable game and an upset would sit well with the magic of the cup. Last time out they reached the FA Cup Round of 16 where they were knocked out by Leicester (1-0) at the King Power Stadium but had eliminated Blackburn at this stage and Coventry in Round 4 after the replay. The Blues will miss will winger Alen Halilovic, midfielder Gary Gardner, full-back Kristian Pedersen and center-back Marc Roberts who are all on the sidelines with injuries.

City have won all major domestic cups whereas Birmingham have won the FA Cup once - their sole FA Cup win in 2012 was the last time The Blues won a major trophy. These two sides also met in the 2016 League Cup final where favourites City managed a 1–0 win to grab the Cup title.
However, this is the first FA Cup meeting between Man City and Birmingham since a third-round tie in January 2001, which ended in a 3-2 Man City win at Maine Road. The Citizens have won their last five R3 ties by an aggregate score of 23-2, while Birmingham are winless in their last 12 away games against Man City in all competitions (D2, L10).
