Manchester United host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on their Premier League opening night after their game against Burnley was postponed last week. The match is due on Saturday, September 19 and the kick-off is at 5.30pm (UK).
Manchester United didn't play last weekend because of their involvement in the 2019/2020 Europa League semi-final in August. The squad was given a rest afterwards and they only played a friendly against Aston Vila in September (lost 1-0). This time United will try to better their last season's finish (3rd), but it's going to be extremely difficult to bridge the gap in points between Liverpool and City. They start against Palace who have a knack of upsetting the Red Devils.
The Eagles had a difficult 2019/2020 season. After a good start they ended the season in a horrible fashion. They ended up with seven consecutive defeats before they drew with Tottenham on the final day of the season. They did have their fare share of injuries, but the attack of Zaha, Benteke and Ajew was hugely underperforming most parts of the campaign. However, they made a winning start to this campaign as Zaha's strike sank Southampton on the opening day.
MANCHESTER UNITED VS CRYSTAL PALACE MATCH ANALYSIS
United's players filled the news columns during summer break with off-the-pitch shenanigans. First, there was the Maguire's arrest in Greece and then, last Monday, Mason Greenwood was sent home from national team duty for breaching quarantine rules. They clearly showed a lack of discipline, and it is the manager's job to make sure the players get their priorities right and stay focused on the campaign.
Another dilemma Solskjaer has on his hand is the goalkeepers situation. David de Gea wasn't on such form as his wages would suggest last season, and in Dean Henderson, who impressed on a season loan at Sheffield United, he will have a real contender for the number one spot. Pogba wasn't included in France's Nation League matches after testing positive for coronavirus. In his absence, Bruno Fernandes whose arrival last season transformed the whole squad, will be pivotal for their opener against Palace.
As for the Eagles, they only netted 31 goals during the last campaign, which forced them to splash £20m on promising QPR striker Eberechi Eze and they also drafted Michy Batshuayi on a second loan from Chelsea. They both started on the bench against the Saints at the weekend in a game which marked Hodgson's three years at the helm. As a present, the team delivered a hard-fought win and a clean sheet.
On Saturday, they will be without several defenders including Mamadou Sakho, van Aanholt and Garry Cahill, but Scott Dann and Cheikhou Kouyate proved the worthy deputes judging on their performance against Southampton. Against United, Hodgson will hope for more key moments of brilliance from his players, as they don't have the men to bring the game to United for full 90 minutes.

Palace won the corresponding fixture in 2019 (1-2), but overall United have a much better head-to-head record against the Eagles. Last 15 games only confirm that, with Palace winning only once, while United have won 10. They shared the points on 4 other occasions. When it comes to goals, their matches have seen little more than two goals per match (2.33). United averaged 1.73 and Palace only 0.6. However, Palace are on a run of eight games when they have scored away from home, but their average is still very low at 1.14 goals. To conclude, United will be little rusty coming out the blocks and Palace won't have too many chances to stamp their mark.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
