Ruben Amorim’s brief reign at Manchester United has brought plenty of excitement, with his side scoring early in both of his first two Premier League matches, and a thrilling 3-2 victory against Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League midweek. As the Red Devils look to climb out of the bottom half of the table, their home clash against Everton offers an ideal opportunity to build momentum. United have an excellent record against the Toffees, winning the last four league meetings, and will fancy their chances of extending that run in front of a home crowd eager for improvement.
Under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United are beginning to show the attacking flair that fans have been craving. The Red Devils have netted early in both of his opening Premier League matches, and a thrilling 3-2 win over Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League has raised hopes that United can begin to push upwards in the league.
The star of the show on Thursday was Rasmus Højlund, who was directly involved in all three of United’s goals, netting twice and providing an assist. The Danish forward looks to be finding his rhythm, which could be a huge boost for Amorim’s attacking setup. The challenge now for the Portuguese manager is to take that momentum into the league, starting with a game against a struggling Everton side.
Despite their attacking promise, United have been far from perfect in the Premier League. They’ve dropped points at home this season, with defensive frailties proving to be a problem. United are yet to keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford in the league, which means they’ll need to tighten up at the back if they are to ensure they don't waste attacking opportunities. But with Højlund, Bruno Fernandes, and co. in form, the hosts will be hoping to dominate possession and dictate the tempo of the match. Given their excellent record against Everton, they’ll be confident of putting another win on the board here.
Everton’s form has been nothing short of frustrating, especially in recent weeks. The Toffees have gone four games without a win (D3, L1), and what is most worrying is their inability to find the back of the net. They’ve failed to score in three consecutive matches, and in the last two outings, they’ve been involved in back-to-back 0-0 draws, with their most recent result a goalless stalemate against Brentford.
With such a blunt attacking force, Everton look unlikely to trouble United’s defence, even if Sean Dyche has them well-organised. Dwight McNeil, who has created the most chances of any Everton player this season, will need to have a standout performance if the visitors are to break their goal drought. The problem, however, is that McNeil’s creativity has yet to yield many goals, leaving Everton looking toothless in attack.
Everton’s record at Old Trafford is also dire. The Toffees have won just once in their last 31 Premier League visits to Manchester United (D8, L22), and that win came back in 2013. Since then, they’ve managed only draws and defeats, and their current form suggests they may struggle once again. Away from Goodison Park, Everton have been poor, winning only once in their last 17 league matches on the road. With their recent struggles, especially in front of goal, it’s hard to see them breaking that unwanted run in this fixture.
Our experts are expecting Manchester United to take the initiative early in this game, especially given the attacking confidence they’ve shown under Amorim. Everton, on the other hand, will likely struggle to break down United’s defence, especially as they’ve failed to score in their last three league matches. With their attacking woes continuing, the Toffees will be under pressure from the first whistle.
United’s attacking trio of Fernandes, Højlund, and Antony will be looking to assert themselves, and if the hosts play to their strengths, they should be able to secure a comfortable victory. With Everton’s away record and lack of cutting edge in attack, it’s hard to see them making much of an impact at Old Trafford.

We expect a Manchester United victory, with a 2-0 scoreline. Given Everton’s woeful form in front of goal and their poor record at Old Trafford, it’s difficult to see them taking anything from this match. Betting Tip: Back Manchester United to win to nil. With Everton struggling to score and United's attacking firepower likely to put them on the back foot, we believe the Red Devils will secure a clean-sheet victory.
