MAN UTD VS WATFORD MATCH ANALYSIS
Manchester United come into this game following a 2-1 win against Dean Smith’s Aston Villa on Friday, January 1 at home. It sent Man Utd to 2nd place, level with Liverpool, albeit with a game in hand. After a turbulent start of the season, the Red Devils are now firmly in the title hunt and have made it nine Premier League games unbeaten (W7, D2). Watford, on the other hand, come into this game on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium in Spaniard Xisco Munoz’s second game in charge of the Hornets after coach Vladimir Ivic got the sack.
Man Utd are as close as they have been to the top of the table at this stage of the season since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. With their fourth win in five at Old Trafford, United are starting to find the home form and are favourites for another win over the sixth-placed Watford in the Championship. Solskjaer will welcome the Hornets to Old Trafford as he continues his search for the first piece of silverware as Manchester United manager. United haven’t won the FA Cup since Louis van Gaal’s final game in charge in the 2016 final, where they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 and were beaten 3-1 in the semi-finals against Chelsea last season. Solskjaer will be determined to land a first trophy in the Manchester United dugout this season and his side are still involved in three competitions they started the campaign in – bar the Champions League.
The Hornets, on the other hand, are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanize the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield just four months into his reign. The Hornets have been doing alright, having in mind the injury problems they have had. They have taken a few steps back in the race for automatic promotion lately, but are looking to get back on track with a win against the PL title hopefuls. New Watford boss Munoz has enjoyed a bright start to his Watford reign, with a win over league leaders, but even though they have a strong squad, it may take some time to understand their new manager's tactics in the transitional period. The oscillations are expected, but they will be hoping for a famous win here.

Man Utd have won three of their four FA Cup ties against Watford, this being their first against the Hornets since a 4-1 semi-final win in 2007. The Red Devils have progressed from 33 of their last 35 FA Cup third-round ties, though both failures in that run did come in home games (2009/10 and 2013/14).
The Hornets, on the other hand, have lost their last nine away games against Man Utd and are winless in their last 13 trips to face the Red Devils (D2 L11) since 1978. When in Championship, Watford have been eliminated from their 10 FA Cup ties against top-flight opponents.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
