After their match of the opening round vs PSG was postponed Metz will try to exploit home Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien and Monaco's defensive issues to gain first points in Ligue 1.
Metz have only one aim in the next season, to make sure they are far enough any relegation battle. That is not easy to achieve in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and among teams that have similar and bigger ambitions and drive to succeed on the highest level in French football.
They played a friendly game vs Montpellier last weekend which ended in 1-1 draw and that was good for their confidence because Metz is on an unbeaten run of four matches. They managed to win three times in those games and only lost to Belgium side Gent in preseason matches. Metz ended the 2019/2020 season in 15th place and they had troubles in the attack. Almost half of their goals were scored by Habib Diallo who found the net on 12 occasions and the whole team managed to put a ball past the keeper 27 times. It is easy to point out the influence of this player on their attacking options.
Regarding the last season meeting between these teams, Metz was much better and won 3-0 at home but Monaco had a different roster and coach. Metz will have confidence and try to exploit wait for their opportunity against Monaco's defense that had big problems in the first game of the season. Metz made some transfers during the summer but the best thing for them is that all significant players from the last season remained at the club. Midfielders Traore and N'Doram are out for this game.
Monaco reshuffled squad once again during the break and new coach Niko Kovač will have a tough task to make results with the players that are still developing. Monaco escaped the defeat in the first round after falling two goals down against Reims but also was very close to victory because they had more than a decent chance from the set-piece to start the season on a high note. The defense will be their biggest issue with new players in almost every position in the last line and time will tell if they have quality and class to gel sooner or later.
They battled back to for 2-2 draw and Kovač more than pleased with the character they showed but every coach must be frustrated how easily they conceded goals and how their mistakes were more than enough for rivals to get in a big chance in the second half. One the other side they must be pleased with how to dominate they were and their control of the rhythm of the game, Monaco had 77% of the possession and 22 shots on goal but goals came from the set-pieces from central defenders Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile.
Kovač is a strange coach option for Monaco because he like a more defensive approach and counter-attacking style that was good for a mid-level club as Frankfurt and bad for football giants Bayern Munchen. He was sacked in November and ten months after Bavarians won UEFA Champions League. He will be without most experienced players in the team because Stevan Jovetić still serves suspension from the last season because of the red card vs Nice and Cesc Fabregas is trying to leave the club and found new in Asia. They will heavily depend on the front line Oneykuru, Ben Yedder, Martins which must find a way to score more than the defense can manage to concede.

It will be an entertaining match with two teams that are keen to start the season as good as they can. Monaco problematic defense and speedy attack can provide us almost sure bet with over 2,5 goals.
So my final Metz vs Monaco Prediction is Over 2.5 goals

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
