Middlesbrough host Reading in the 5th round of the Championship at Riverside Stadium (Middlesbrough) on Saturday, October 17 and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
Middlesbrough marked Neil Warnock's 1,500th game in management by beating Barnsley before the international break to claim a first Championship victory of the season. Earlier, they lost to Watford (1-0) on the opening day then followed it with two 1-1 draws against Bournemouth and QPR. The latest win finds them in 10th place in the table with 5 points from their first four matches.
Reading registered a routine win against Derby County at Pride Park in a season opener and their 2-0 victory in the second week against nine-man Barnsley was their first home Championship win since the end of February. The Royals maintained their perfect start to their Championship season with victory at Cardiff City (1-2) which was followed by a 1-0 win against another heavyweights, Watford. They are now below Bristol on goal difference at the top of the league with 12 points.
MATCH ANALYSIS
After unsuccessful spell at the helm with former club legend Jonathan Woodgate, who obviously didn't have much pulling power as a manager, the job was given to experienced Neil Warnock. He managed to keep them up, and it's not entirely unexpected that he had decided to stay and maybe create another promotion miracle with a club whose rich history suggests that they can compete at the highest level. The win against Watford was the best possible way to mark Warnock's achievement, especially having in mind that it was their first win at the Riverside Stadium since 26 December last year. Only Boro (48) scored less than Barnsley (49) in the Championship last season, but the hosts were by far the better team on this occasion. Warnock's side will be buoyed by this win ahead of the Reading game, not only by the three points, but with the general display as well.
As for Reading, they are 2nd in the table on goal difference below Bristol City after four consecutive wins, three clean sheets and only a single goal conceded. It could be that Royals, have finally found the elusive X-factor from the previous seasons in the form of the huge team-work, where everybody knows and understands their role, and especially the ability to adapt during the games. Their identity is still forging, but they have a game plan and they stick to it. In their most recent league match before the international break George Puscas hit the winner to maintain Reading's 100% league record and end Watford's unbeaten start. The win also marked the club's best start since the 1985-86 season and was even more impressive as the injury-hit hosts gave starts to four academy players, with a further five on the bench alongside leading scorer Lucas Joao. The team is developing and while the start of the season is promising, they still have a long way to go.

These two sides have been involved in 22 matches since 2006 and Boro have registered 11 wins to Reading's 7. Another four games ended in draws. Boro have won their last seven league fixtures and Reading's most recent win came in 2015. Since then Royals have scored 4 goals in their last 7 matches while conceding 12.
Their head-to-head matches average 2.36 goals per match, out of which Boro scores 1.27 and Reading 1.09 goals on average.
The history is on Boro's side, but Royals are currently in better form. Both teams are more defensively solid than they are dangerous up front,
So my prediction for this match is - Under 2.5 goals.

Wyatt grew up in the suburbs of London and he is a big Chelsea fan. As a young boy, he found his love for football, which became an obsession, but when he tried playing it he soon realized that he just wasn't talented enough. Bearing that in mind, Wyatt decided to learn everything there is to know about all the teams and players, with special focus on Premier League and Championship . Wyatt has a big affection for Championship and he is well versed in all the teams and knows their advantages and weak spots very well. He is an economist, and being one makes him good with numbers and also good with the odds. His specialty are BTTS matches.
