Middlesbrough host Stoke at the Riverside Stadium (Middlesbrough) in the 36th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 13. Read our reasons for Middlesbrough vs Stoke prediction and betting tips.
In spite of their spirited performance, a disappointing 2-1 defeat last time out vs Swansea leaves Middlesbrough’s faint top-six hopes hanging by a thread sitting in 9th place in the table. Visitors Stoke bounced back from three straight defeats with a straightforward 2-0 win over rock-bottom Wycombe last time out. That victory moved the ‘Potters’ to within two points of Middlesbrough in 10th and an unlikely win here will see them leapfrog the hosts.
Middlesbrough’s play-off hopes suffered another blow after a 2-1 defeat at Swansea – a result which left Neil Warnock’s side seven points off the top six. Boro thought they had salvaged a late point at Swansea when Sam Morsy canceled out Andre Ayew’s opener in stoppage-time, yet a controversial late penalty decision went against the visitors. The Teessiders have been competing near the top for most of the campaign but now face an uphill battle to win promotion from the second tier this season.
Warnock has been a bit hit with the fans from minute one. Supporters love his honesty and his one-liners, and the fact results have, on the whole, been positive, of course. On the pitch, he kept Boro up last season and has overseen an improvement this term. He was adamant in the first half of the season his side would peak at the business end of the campaign but that hasn't turned out to be the case. Inconsistency has cost Boro, who have stuttered and stumbled since the new year.
On the other hand, Stoke recorded a deserved home victory over bottom club Wycombe on Saturday afternoon. Whilst the game finished 2-0 in favour of the Potters, Michael O’Neill’s men could have easily won by a far greater margin at the bet365 Stadium. However, the win leaves the Potters nine points off the play-off places, and although it’s highly unlikely the Potters still have slim outside chances of making it into the play-offs.
Michael O'Neill has also endured issues in the final third with just three of his Stoke players scoring more than twice in the Championship this season. With 25 goal contributions between them, Nick Powell and Steven Fletcher have played a key role, but they will require assistance if the Potters are going to move up the table. The Potters are coming into this match without an away win since December 2, leaving O'Neill and his players looking to end a nine-match winless streak on their travels.

Middlesbrough meet Stoke for the 100th time in all competitions and Stoke’s record in the last 20 meetings is only marginally better with 9 wins to Boro’s 8. However, Stoke are looking for their first away league win against Middlesbrough since August 1997.
The last four goals Middlesbrough have conceded have all been from set pieces –they haven’t conceded in open play in 323 minutes of Championship football, while Stoke are on their longest winless away league run since (9) since a run of 11 without a win between November 2018 and March 2019.
Both teams have claimed just one win in four matches, increasing the need for maximum points to be collected from the fixture at the Riverside Stadium. However, we expect a low-scoring affair and the Bettingkick’s Middlesbrough vs Stoke prediction is: Under 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
