Now second-placed Milan meets last-placed Crotone at the Stadio San Siro with the visitors who are without the suspended Junior Messias.
Stefano Pioli assures Milan ‘earned’ their win against Bologna and has put the disappointment of ‘a difficult week’ behind them. The Rossoneri ended their run of back-to-back defeats in all competition by scraping a 2-1 victory away to Bologna, achieved with two penalties – one converted by Franck Kessie, the other on the rebound by Ante Rebic after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s effort was saved. Andrea Poli came off the bench and scored to make it a panicked finale, Gianluigi Donnarumma repeatedly coming to the rescue. “You have to sweat for every single point. Without the naïve error on Bologna’s goal, we would’ve had a very good game,” Pioli told media.
The last week has indeed been tough for Milan, who lost 3-0 in Serie A to Atalanta and went out of the Coppa Italia quarter-final 2-1 to Inter. “The last two training sessions were the best we’ve had in a long time. We got some important players back and the team maintained the right attitude. We weren’t happy with the performance against Atalanta, as they were the only team that made us suffer this season. We fought it out with everyone else.” Rafael Leao was playing in a new role as trequartista in a central position behind Ibrahimovic, in the absence of Hakan Calhanoglu and Brahim Diaz. Fikayo Tomori is once again expected to replace Simon Kjaer in the Rossoneri defense. Ismael Bennacer will feature in Stefano Pioli’s XI while Mario Mandzukic will start on the bench.
Milan (3-5-2): G Donnarumma; Calabria, Tomori, Romagnoli, Theo; Kessie, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Rebic; Ibrahimovic
Suspended: none
Injured: Kjaer, Brahim Diaz
Crotone coach Giovanni Stroppa took full responsibility for his side’s 3-0 defeat against Genoa. ‘It was the worst game of my tenure.’ The Sharks lost 3-0 at the Ezio Scida at hands of Genoa and remain at the bottom of the Serie A table. “The goals we conceded are the emblem of our match, this is my responsibility,” he told the media. “I don’t remember we played such a bad game. We can make mistakes on the pitch, but we shouldn’t have had the wrong approach. “I am responsible for this, it’s a pity to have put in such a bad performance, the goals are there to be seen.” New Crotone signing Adam Ounas will start on the bench too. The Sharks' second-best scorer this season Junior Messias is serving a one-match ban.
Crotone (3-5-2): Cordaz; Magallan, Marrone, Djidji; Rispoli, Benali, Zanellato, Vulic, Reca; Di Carmine, Simy
Suspended: Messias
Injured: Cuomo, Cigarini, Molina

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
