Sunday evening in Serie A is almost always a derby time, so it is not unusual to see good Milan and Napoli sides battling for valuable points in the last game of the weekend. Read our reasons for Milan vs Napoli prediction and betting tips.
Stefano Pioli said Manchester United was the perfect opponent for Milan at the moment. The Rossoneri picked up a last-gasp 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16. "The team played with personality. We suffered in difficult moments. We knew they have quality, but this performance must boost our self-confidence," Pioli told media. "When we were drawn with Manchester United I thought they were the right opponent for us. "We are working to improve and try to win again. We want to take Milan where we belong and these are the games where you can improve," he continued. "We want to go all the way through and to do so we have to beat these teams. The result is positive, but we have another tough game ahead. The job is not done. They are a great team."
Pioli was satisfied after his team lost league-leading position and underperformed in several games. Victory against Verona took them back on the right path. "I am satisfied. I keep repeating to my players I am not training a regular group. This is an extraordinary group, under any aspect. When I see the lads give their soul to get a good result, I can only be happy. It's probably a result we would have accepted before the game. After it, I can say we may deserve something more, but it's a good result," Pioli said. "The team's spirit was great, we wanted to dominate every game and give our best. We must have a high level of energy for that. We've been playing one game every four days since September, but these guys never give up. We must continue, it's a crucial part of the season. Now, we have three big games coming next: Napoli, Manchester United and Fiorentina. Then we'll have time to rest, at least those who won't join the national teams."
Full-back Theo Hernandez is expected to return, having overcome bruising which caused him to miss the trip to Manchester and a subsequent stomach bug, Milan still has several other concerns. Ante Rebic (hip) may be fit in time for Sunday's evening kickoff, Mario Mandzukic and Ismael Bennacer are unlikely to feature. Playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu and top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic are not expected to return from thigh strains until next week. As Davide Calabria sustained an injury in the Europa League, Hernandez's stand-in Diogo Dalot - a scorer last weekend - could switch to the right side of Stefano Pioli's back four. Midfield general Franck Kessie should be joined by Sandro Tonali in the center, with Soualiho Meite potentially dropping to the bench. After a great goal vs Verona and assist Rade Krunic is favored to start in support of lone frontman Rafael Leao, deputizing for Calhanoglu and Ibrahimovic.
Milan: Donnarumma; Hernandez, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Dalot; Kessie, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Krunic, Castillejo; Leao
Coach Gennaro Gattuso said Napoli focuses on ‘one game at a time’, ahead of a run of three away games against Milan, Juventus, and Roma. The Partenopei sit sixth in Serie A with 47 points from 25 games and the next three games are crucial in the top four battle this term. Milan is second, Juventus third and Roma fourth ahead of this Sunday’s trip to the Rossoneri and Gattuso stressed Napoli are only focused on the first task in hand. “Let’s think of one opponent at a time,” Gattuso told local media. “Now, it’s Milan.” Napoli is unbeaten in three consecutive League games and arrives from a 3-1 success over Bologna last time. Mexican forward Hirving Lozano is back in training and Il Mattino reported he has turned up before everyone to work with the physiotherapist ahead of the session with the rest of the group. The 25-year-old, who has scored nine times in 21 Serie A games this campaign, should at least be back on the bench against Milan.
Napoli's previously injury-ravaged forward line is getting closer to full strength, as both Andrea Petagna and Hirving Lozano are back in full training after thigh problems - with a place in the squad a distinct possibility for the Mexican speedster. Full-back Faouzi Ghoulam - recently returned but again tore the ACL in his left knee against Bologna and is out for the rest of the season at a minimum. One of either Mario Rui or Elseid Hysaj will step into Ghoulam's vacated left-back berth, while Victor Osimhen will compete with Dries Mertens for the center-forward role.
Napoli: Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Hysaj; Bakayoko, Ruiz; Politano, Zielinski, Insigne; Mertens

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
