Serie A week five ends on Monday evening with table leaders Milan who host Roma at Stadio San Siro.
With or without Zlatan, up till now, Milan is on the winning path. They were criticized for the lack of activity in the summer transfer window, but it hasn’t looked to hurt them at all at the moment. Stefano Pioli’s side has not lost a match since March, their last fixture just before COVID-19 stopped play. After the restart, they looked brilliant and carried that momentum right over to this season, where Milan currently sit at the top with a perfect 4-0-0 record.
In the highly-anticipated Milan derby, last Saturday, Zlatan Ibrahimovic led his side to a 2-1 victory over Inter thanks to his goals. It was their first derby victory since 2016 and the Swede striker already scored four times in just two games after missing pitch due to coronavirus. His leadership and skills are still at the top of the game, despite being just shy of 40-years old. In midweek action, Celtic was their next victim on Thursday, they won 3-1 in Europa League as Milan’s winning ways continued.
Ante Rebic has not recovered from an elbow injury and is expected to remain on the sidelines, but Stefano Pioli hopes Hakan Calhanoglu can make an early return onto the pitch. The Turkey star had picked up a sprained ankle before the Rossoneri’s win against Celtic in Europa League but he could be included in the Diavoli’s squad list against Roma and start from the bench.
Milan (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma G.; Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, T.Hernandez; Kessie, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Rafael Leao; Ibrahimovic
Suspended: none
Injured: Gabbia, Musacchio, Rebic
Roma's last domestic outing was very impressive, putting five goals past Benevento, with a brace from Edin Dzeko. Pedro has added a spark on the attack for Roma after making the switch from Chelsea in the summer, while Dzeko continues to provide his clinical abilities upfront.
Roma also got a vital victory after the turn around in their Europa League Matchday 1 fixture on Thursday, coming back to beat Swiss outfit Young Boys, 2-1.
There is still room for improvement, especially in the last line that was reshuffled once again under coach Paulo Fonseca, a firm tactician with a bright CV from Braga and Shakhtar, born in Maputo, Mozambique. Backline with Ibanez, Cristante, and Kumbulla doesn’t have enough time on training together, and the next match for them will be a heavy experiment.
Paulo Fonseca finds himself without two key central defenders. Chris Smalling hasn’t recovered from a mild knee sprain and is going to miss the game. The same is true of Gianluca Mancini who tested positive for Coronavirus earlier this week. Amadou Diawara is also out of action due to Covid.
Roma (3-4-2-1): Mirante; Ibanez, Cristante, Kumbulla; Santon, Veretout, Pellegrini, Spinazzola; Pedro, Mkhitaryan; Dzeko
Suspended: none
Injured: Mancini, Diawara, Pastore, Calafiori, Zaniolo

Fatigue could be the issue for both sides but Milan is the favorite to win this game. Roma raises their level of performance but Milan looks like a team ready to continue with a perfect season, so a home win is our preferred option for this match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
