After Milan beat Torino 2-0 on Saturday in the Serie A match, they will meet again on Tuesday in the Coppa Italia.
Milan coach Stefano Pioli was ‘not at all surprised’ that Milan bounced back immediately to beat Torino, but the injuries and suspensions are still causing problems. The Rossoneri put the defeat to Juventus behind them with a 2-0 victory at San Siro, decided by Rafael Leao and a Franck Kessie penalty. Pioli praised team mentality, “I know these lads and expected them to give this kind of response. The first half was excellent, particularly in terms of quality, and we inevitably came under pressure during the second half against a Torino side in good form.”
Kessie not only converted the penalty but is confirming his status as one of the only players Milan simply cannot do without. There was good news with the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hakan Calhanoglu, but also bad, as Sandro Tonali was stretchered off and Brahim Diaz sustained an injury too. In absence of Zlatan, Rafael Leao show his quality, he improved his focus, his concentration, he’s still very young and is learning and he well adapted to the traditional center-forward role.
Pioli will still be engaged in a spot of crisis management though and is likely to be without the injured Matteo Gabbia, Ismael Bennacer, and Alexis Saelemaekers, while Rade Krunic and Ante Rebic are unavailable due to COVID-19. Sandro Tonali returned from suspension at the weekend but was injured during an incident in which he nearly gave a penalty away, while Brahim Diaz also picked up a knock. Hakan Calhanoglu was only ready for a few minutes as a substitute at the weekend but maybe pressed into service from the start given Milan's mounting midfield absence list.
AC Milan: Donnarumma; Dalot, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Kessie, Calabria; Castillejo, Calhanoglu, Hauge; Leao
Marco Giampaolo is frustrated with Torino’s 2-0 loss to his old club Milan. ‘We watched for 45 minutes and played the other 45 minutes.’ The Granata saw their four-round unbeaten run come to an end with this 2-0 defeat at San Siro, decided in the first half by Rafael Leao and a Franck Kessie penalty. Ricardo Rodriguez hit the crossbar with his free-kick and Gianluigi Donnarumma performed a sensational save late on to deny Jacopo Segre. There was also a strange incident when the referee awarded a spot-kick to Toro, but changed his mind after the VAR on-field review, deciding Simone Verdi had kicked Sandro Tonali rather than been tripped. Andrea Belotti works hard up front, but Torino remains too reliant on their star striker.
As on Saturday, Torino boss Marco Giampaolo should have a fully-fit squad to select from, with midfielder Daniele Baselli recently returning from long-term injury to make the bench. In the Granata's familiar 3-5-2 formation, previously ever-present midfielder Karol Linetty is likely to be restored to the first XI - with Milan transfer target Soualiho Meite sitting out - and Simone Verdi favored to support tireless striker Andrea Belotti up top.
Torino: Sirigu; Izzo, Lyanco, Bremer; Singo, Lukic, Rincon, Linetty, Rodriguez; Verdi, Belotti

On Saturday, it was a closer encounter than the final result suggests, and Torino had their chances. Both teams to score looks again like a most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
