All eyes are on Stefano Pioli’s Milan ahead of this weekend’s match against Hellas Verona, as they must respond to their first setback of the campaign.
Milan is reportedly going to ask their players to take a 20% salary cut to cope with the economic crisis caused by COVID 19. The Rossoneri announced a loss of €195m for the 2019-20 campaign last month and according to La Repubblica, they are the first Serie A team that will begin talks with their players asking for a salary cut. Back in March, Juventus players agreed to take a collective pay cut, saving the club around €90m.
The Rossoneri have been flying high since the resumption of football in June and an unbeaten run of 24 games was broken by LOSC Lille in the Europa League. Milan faces a stern test and must raise their game to show Serie A they have matured and are ready to bounce back for the first time asking.
The League leaders are expected to play the normal 4-2-3-1 formation of Pioli, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line. Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie are tipped to play in the middle of the park against Tameze and Ilic, as Verona should come in a 3-4-2-1.
Alexis Saelemaekers could be back in the side after having sat out against the Ligue 1 side, with Hakan Calhanoglu and Rafael Leao completing the attacking trident.
Milan (4-2-3-1): G. Donnarumma; Dalot, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Bennacer, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Leao; Ibrahimovic
Suspended: none
Injured: Musacchio, Castillejo, Calabria
Hellas Verona has set the standard early on in the season too, establishing themselves in the top half among the European candidates, as Ivan Juric’s men continue to impress despite a host of absentees. Juric’s men are usually aggressive and intense in their style of play, stressing the opponents off the ball, but the coach admitted it’s difficult to keep up the same pace of last season in such a packed program.
Nikola Kalinic should spearhead the Gialloblu at San Siro, and he should have Antonin Barak and Mattia Zaccagni in support against Simon Kjaer and Alessio Romagnoli.
Hellas Verona must cope without Koray Gunter against Milan, as the defender has suffered a hamstring injury. After Ronaldo Vieira’s injury, the Gialloblu have further bad news ahead of the big game against the Rossoneri. The German center-back has played four times in Serie A this term and Verona confirmed he will be out against Milan with a ‘first-degree muscle injury to the hamstring’.
Verona (3-4-2-1): Silvestri; Ceccherini, Lovato, Magnani; Lazovic, Tameze, Ilic, Dimarco; Barak, Zaccagni; Kalinic
Suspended: none
Injured: Gunter, Ruegg, Faraoni, Danzi, Veloso, Vieira, Benassi, Favilli

Milan is a favorite for the win, but it will be interesting to see how they will react after the first loss of the season. Verona can make life difficult for any rival, Juventus game is strong proof of that theory. Under 2.5 goals is our betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
